Screw it! I'm just going to build up the Swiss and play them as I originally intended. enough of this... med. irish are still a thought, but they'll have to wait with this project, another FoW army and upcoming Napoleonics to contend with.... I'll have a pretty good range of medievals with full Fren...

well, alright, it seems the consensus is I should keep some... so I likely will and then perhaps slowly work on the others and sell them in battlegroups or some such. Just alot of work when I'd rather be working on other models/projects etc. Might be time to grab another army book and work out of th...

Timmy, you make some good points... especially about the Italian Wars stuff coming up. I have Rank and File miniatures which are actually quite nice and look late medieval to the early 1500s. I'm surprised they're not listed on all the references for Swiss models. In any case, it's not giving up, it...

Expendablecinc, good advice. Although I have to admit, I'd rather just build something I want to play. It's a lot of time and effort as everyone knows... but it's not a bad tactic. I hadn't thought about selling in BG. I'm an ok enough painter, I always call it a "decent table/gaming standard&q...

Well, the question is general, it doesn't really matter in context. But the army I bought was Swiss... tons of pikes, Widely regarded as a powerful army but I suppose they're just not my cup of tea. Why? Not sure... maybe they're not dirty enough. I think my gut told me to go for Medieval Irish, in ...

Army Remorse?

Anyone ever get it? I've got it bad. A few months ago, I bought about 800 points (+/-) of models for my second army out of Storm of Arrows. My decision was between two armies and at the time I decided on the one that seemed to make the most sense, was most practical, and arguably was the stronger ar...

Vercingetorix, I play French, although I'm no expert. I play mostly against HYW English and German. Longbows... gah, yeah. No matter what, they suck to go against. Typically my opponents max out the # of longbows or close to it. Lots of hits, causing disrupted/fragmented/etc etc.. problems along tho...

who invited zulu? I'm thinking of the following 3x4 knights 1x6 knights 1x6 dismounted knights (or knights who show up and then dismount) 1x8 voulgiers 1x8 peasants 2x6 crossbowmen (french) 3 x TC depending on opponent, just line up the knights and go forward or setting up two "attack groups&qu...

Andy, good point... crossbows vs mounted I can maximize the matchup. Thanks! Dave, good thoughts. I don't think I have the models to do the Scots, but if I'm going to be buying stuff.... As for the valets, I'd definitely take them in 6s. I know the trend around here is to go small BGs, but I play fr...

MikeK, thanks for the thoughts... you remind me that there's a lot more depth to the French list then I at first perceived. At the very least, it's going to be more of a play to have fun tournament as opposed to play for big prizes or whatever... but as to your points... dismounted knights... should...

Med. French "easy tourney" list

Hello all, I'm headed to a "low pressure" tournament in about a month, which suits me fine as it's my first and I've only been playing FoG since September. 800 points, Medieval French from Storm of Arrows. 4 x French Men At Arms - knights, HA, sup, undrilled, lancers, swordsmen - 3 BG 6 x ...

Bleck Swiss. May you always fight in uneven terrain. Well, my army of medieval Frenchmen getting caught in the mud has the same problem. I think you and my friend zulu have alot in common. Lousy longbows... past couple of games, I just can't seem to keep from becoming a pincushion. With the Swiss.....

Thanks Hazelbark!
And 2x4 pike units end up 2x4 which is another reason people like pikes in 8s.
Now I see the logic. I'm building up some Swiss right now  ... hmmm.. It still complicates all my other moves, but I'll learn to deal.

Thanks for the quick answer, Mr. Scott.

But, since I'm classified as "slow on the uptake", that means in my heavy foot example, the BG turning MUST be in the column of 1 base wide x 4 bases deep, correct?

Again, thanks.

90 degree turn reforming

Ok, this came up in a game the other night... 90 degree turns... the basic mechanism for the turn is that the turned BG needs to have it's new front edge at least the # of bases "so that the width of the turned group is at least as wide as it was deep before turning". (pg. 44) Ok, fine. Th...

pricing differences?

Ok, I need some help on this one. I'm interested in the Gladiator miniatures line for my up and coming Swiss army. Black Hat carries Gladiator and has a FoG starter army for 65 pounds. I checked with Scale Creep (US distributor) because I'm in the US, thinking I'd save on shipping. Same FoG starter ...

Alright, I'm lost again.. Frontage of 3 bases not bad for manouver but horrible if you get into combat. Yes this would be much worse than 12 BG 3 wide Why is a BG with 3 bases in the front bad for combat? I figured a handful of BG with 12 bases each in a 3 front, 4 deep formation.. I see the problem...
