With regards the size of the legions it depends on who you are facing. If you expect shooting then big BGs are better. If not then small BGs (4s) are better off because they are statistically less likely to lose a base when they are engaged in combat and they are more manuvarable.

What would be the advantage of the gauls as HF? The 3 OS BGs are intended to hold open terrain with the gauls pushing through rough terrain. I was thinking about the armoured cav and the scutarii. I just can't seem to max out on the LF. Here is my revised list:

I have just got my set of rules. I decided to go for Romans as I really enjoyed playing with them in DBM. I've always wanted to use Republican Roman, but they were pretty useless in DBM.

Undoubtedly having 12 pike works much better in combat resolution also - especially against those pesky meat-grinding romans! That +2 for a fourth rank and being steady pike can really frustrate them boys!
