Where are they now?
Looking at an old copy of the Reiter (the newsletter/journal of the US Pike and Shot Federation) from Aug/Sept 2000 it had a list of gamers for the REITER CHAMPIONSHIP. Dr. Mike Guth who started the DBR Renaissance gaming on the East coast back in 1995 was the only person who actually contended for ...

Re: Line of Sight and Firing
The problem with this aspect of the rules is that we are substituting implied meaning for explicit statement. Page 48 lists three conditions for a unit to be eligible to fire: 1) Type-Infantry, Artillery, and artillery attachments 2) Within range- a measure of distance 3) Condition- It must not have...

Re: Historicon July 19, 2014 (Fredericksburg)
Sorry folks, I have been off list for a while. I was not able until this week to make sure I could actually go to Historicon. 850 point Open in 15mm. If you have a very non western army (Chinese, Africans, Indians, or Meso Americans, please let me know in advance, some of these lists are quite UNbal...

The word OR
My friend and I disagree about the word OR in the Later Jewish army list and I would like an official view if possible. In the optional troops, the Jewish list has some Thracian Horse (either cav or LH). You can take 0-8 BG 4-6. However the beginning of the entry states "Replace Xystophoroi or ...

2 Generals?
Is it possible to have two generals with a unit? For example a CNC who is an IC and a sub who is a TC both attached. For shooting cohesion tests and CMTs the group would use the IC, in melee the TC can help the close combat while the IC is the bolstering general if necessary?

Allied Flank March question
If this was asked before I apologize. I am looking at the rules on page 144 concerning Flank marches. If I have an Allied General and 4 BG can he do a Flank march? One para says "Each outflanking march must include a single commander and at least 1 to 3 battlegroups." However the next para...

As with all crossbow, it's only so-so at best. The better the armour of the opponent, the less meh they are. My protected/sw/xbow seem to do fine against non shock troops. Though they do very little actual shooting I actually think this is correct. They should be posted in a field of cabbages or beh...

Integrated archers?
OK, now that I re-read the Order of Battle I see the integrated archers. Will that apply in the Bronze Age too for chariot runners and other similar troops? What aboutUnits of mixed HF/MF or MF/MF like Indian 2H Swordsmen and archers? English bill and bow?

year round troops vs for the season
I think there is general agreement that most early armies had a small core of year round soldiers vs. season or for the campaign soldiers. Even in Egypt which had the largest number of what we would consider regular troops, only a few were under arms all year round as a garrison. The rest were invol...

Book choices
I have the Judah maccabee book from Firebird that came out about 10 years ago. I have Osprey's Rome's Desert Frontier. I am expecting good things from the new Herod's Army book by Osprey coming out in the fall.

Mixed up?
In the example given: A German Warband charges into a Roman BG of Legionaires with a BG of LF Archers in the back rank. I don't think the archers contribute anything at all. They only combat shoot vs Mounted, and they cannot fight as a second rank since on page 92 it states that "rear ranks of ...

Minoan vs Achean and other points
I have really enjoyed these posts although I am posting a bit late to join in the main discussion. 1) I think if you put the Minoans and Acheans together in one list some distinction should be made between the Minoans and their Lance equipped nobles in Dendra armor and later more bow and spear orien...
