Where are they now?

Post by Unclemeat »

Looking at an old copy of the Reiter (the newsletter/journal of the US Pike and Shot Federation) from Aug/Sept 2000 it had a list of gamers for the REITER CHAMPIONSHIP. Dr. Mike Guth who started the DBR Renaissance gaming on the East coast back in 1995 was the only person who actually contended for the championship. The other gamers just played and turned in results. Eventually DBR disappeared from our conventions replaced by FOGR, but where have the players gone? If you are one of the following people "HELLO" or if you know what happened to these guys please post an update.

This is the list from the Reiter and their games won/lost/drawn:

Steve Roper 5/0/0 Always tops in DBR Steve is still in Michigan
Dr. Mike Guth 3/0/0 Mike is in Maryland
Craig Bowser 3/0/0 ?
Steve Turn 3/3/0 Steve used to play Russians in 15mm and then SWORE he was painting up a New Model Army in 25mm, now plays Flames of War TRAITOR :-)
Dave Clarke 3/0/0 Dave lives as he was back then in Barnet England. Dave will actually be coming to America for the first time in nearly 8-9 years at Fall-In.
Jeff Wiltrout 3/0/0 Jeff is one of the regular FOGR gamers these days
Pete Hess 2/1/0 Pete died suddenly a few years ago, his giant demo games like the Siege of Malta are sadly missed.
Robert Nedwich 2/0/1 ME! one of those wins was against Pete Hess
Dan Hazelwood 2/2/1 Dan is a regular and the king of all FOGs
Kevin Swanson 2/1/0 Kevin is a regular when I can steal him away from FOGN, the old Viper of Milan!
Craig Weikel 2/2/0 The Venerable Weasel of Wurtembourg is semi retired until he retires from federal service and then hopefully will rejoin us.
Simon Babbs 1/1/1 One of the Chicago bunch
Terence McPartland 2/0/0 A number of years ago I heard that Terence had been very ill. Any news?
Bill Boardman 2/3/0 Steve Roper's Michigan compatriot, does Bill game anymore?
Myles Toomey 2/2/0 Another Chicago man, dust off your Tudors Myles!
Tom MacMillan 2/1/0 A Rhode Islander who only plays Chess and WarHammer 40K now, what a loss! If any of you can get Tom to rejoin us I will arrange a special prize.
Dave Lamb 1/2/0 A transplanted Englishman from the same area as Dave Clarke. Father Christmas is a regular when the event is in Lancaster.
Mike Kelley 1/2/0 A regular from Virginia
Mark Huml 1/3/0 Another Chicagoan who was an Ancients man with buddy Jeff Hady. Bring your Imperialists to Fall-In Mark!
Mark Bumala 1/1/0 Still playing, I will see you at Historicon.
Doug Mudd 1/2/0 Doug used to run his Italian Wars Spanish regularly against Craig's Maximilian Imperialists until his career moved him to Colorado.
Jim Tobin 1/2/0 Jim is another Lancaster regular. He had a health scare this year, but with rest and Guinness he has been recuperating.
Phillip Jarvio 1/2/0 I think Phil dropped out about 10-12 years ago and has stayed in New England.
JM Taylor 1/2/0 Is this Cy from Delaware or someone else?
Chris Burr 0/1/1 ?
Marcus Treganz 0/3/0 ?
Allan Brown 0/3/0 ?
Bob Luddy 0/2/0 "Gentleman" Bob is a Co-Founder of HMGS and a true hobbyist. Bob hasn't played a tournament in a while, but is still active with FOG and FOGR at home.
John Shirey 0/2/0 John used to run Moghuls or Hindu Indians so he could line up Rockets and charge with Elephants. Now a daddy, he games modern skirmish.
Andy Kitcher 0/1/0 ?
Mike Ohtonen 0/1/0 ?
Charlie Zwinak 0/1/0 ?

not in the Reiter: Walt Leach, Dave Ray, Joe Walukonis, Dave Boor, Jay Stone, Danny Weiss, Rob Torres, Dave May, and John Sullins

Back in the day as now, 15mm v. 25mm made a big deal. I prefer colorful troops in 25mm and mass armies in 15mm, however in 15mm you can get more bases on the table. That leaves just 20-22mm and we usually had one representative in that scale; Mike Manning from Canada.

TM -- healthy lives and plays in DC.
CB -- plays FOG AM in Boston. strong player
MT -- returned to Australia whence he came. Now cruises the roads like MadMax. He is seen at some Aussie Tourneys. I think last year he swung thru to visit battlefields and play DBM/A.
AK -- Returned to England. playing FOG there. Sometimes with great success.
