Re: Quick General Question on concepts and formations
:) then you played with or against me :) it was Vilcapugio ran by John and also done with Lasalle .. http://img832.imageshack.us/img832/3141/picture184yh.jpg http://img109.imageshack.us/img109/3925/picture181c.jpg that battle is smaller than Maipu, so certainly not a FOG-N game :) Small world :)

Re: Quick General Question on concepts and formations
haha.. what convention was that.. it could have been one of mine , I did Maipu ( historical, not what if ) at Cold Wars and at Millenium last year.. Tactical games are ideal for that level.. still for a few actions FOG-N can give a quick game.. Cold Wars http://img692.imageshack.us/img692/1747/pictu...

Re: Quick General Question on concepts and formations
Those are the kinds of insights into the author's point of view that I was looking for.. thanks to you both.. Indeed for San Martin and O'Higgins Fog-N is not an option. I have the full armies for the Chile campaign in 15mm, but this would default to 4 or 5 infantry units and 3 or 4 cav regiments in...

Re: Quick General Question on concepts and formations
Thanks for the answers, they are very helpful... Tim, I would assume the same regarding the example you referenced... it looks as three tactical formations side by side would be the best way to represent this given that the line at Salamanca was indeed supported, so what you say makes sense.. I'm ok...

Quick General Question on concepts and formations
So after reading and re-reading and after the first playtest in our group I have a couple of questions that are not really "rules" related but that would help me understand the design concepts of the game if the Authors can have a look and answer :) So the concept of the tactical formation...

Well as I said we counted them as poor with no cohesion test , paid them as average but added that -2 to death roll, it seemed balanced so far :) We are using the 60mm front but we are doing 1MU=40mm Glad to see similar conclusions in other games :) We really enjoyed the game, we had another game wi...

Large battle report with pictures !!!
Ok, So with my gaming group in Argentina we play historicals but of course also Fantasy. Traditionally we have played the famous rules about the “blunt instrument for war” but we never stopped playing 3rd edition. Even more we had heavily modified the rules to be more of a “wargame”, simultaneous mo...

Yes, it would be kind of boring. That is why we always try to do the historical games balanced by points. Sometimes it is possible to reflect the difference in numbers with quality but in this case it would not have been a viable alternative. We did try to represent general historical concepts like ...

Early carthaginians
I thought it would be fun to paint a couple of chariots so that my later Carthaginian army could become an Early Carthaginian army to go fight some Syracusan armies in Sicily. I found some nice chariots from 10mm old glory, not a lot of info out there about these early Carthaginian chariots so I exe...

new 10mm carthaginian phalanx
So I expanded my Carthaginian army a bit more. Here in the US I collect 10mm, easier to take to the club and to keep at home, plus I only started painting two years ago and I am slow ( faster with 10s ). In Buenos Aires all the armies stay at home since we play there, so we have the 28mm, but when y...

Samurai Armies 28mm
Some up of our 28mm armies ( seen on the Mikatagahara battle report ) We are building Takeda's army ( Wind-Fire-Forest-Mountain divisions ) and Tokugawa Ieyasu's alliance: Ii, Oda Nobunaga, Honda Tadakatsu http://i290.photobucket.com/albums/ll269/wargameserize/fogargentina/samurai/Loki001.jpg http:/...

Conclusion and final thoughts Overall it was a superb battle. The troop interaction gave the feeling of a real samurai battle, the division line of command resulted in a fascinating tactical challenge to players and in the end defined the outcome of the battle. Also it was the first time we saw a s...

The final stage And so we reach the conclusive stage of Mikatagahara. At this point it was clear that there was little Ieyasu’s alliance could do to save the day. Oda’s army was routing in front of Tokuagawa’s incredulous eyes. The extreme flanks were still holding, on the right Takeda’s hatamoto w...

The battle reaches its climax Takeda’s commanders at this point accelerated the pace to try to exploit the disruption in the enemy lines while try to hold the left flank in face of an adverse situation. On the right, Takeda’s Hatamoto chased and killed the bow ashigaru skirmishers. One unit of mtd ...
