Ive been wondering if its possible at all to buy the source code and update the game to something a little more modern.

I think its a great game - just needs a little modernisation.

As I understand it the Slitherine Version of GS 2.1 is not good for PBeM - where can I download a version that I can play Multiplayer?

You need the Finnish fighter during winter, at least it ca fight on par with the Russians. It's all about the counter punch now.

If there are those transports in he med then there may be an opportunity for Spanish activation. Potential to send out exploratory garrisons to Casablanca and French African positions.

Won't cost much if you lose a cheap garrison seeing if Casablanca is free.
