Building a greek city state (pic HEAVY!)

Well, the city part at least... I'm building a greek city for my and my friends/favourite enemies armies to fight over: Some finished houses: http://www.lassekongo.net/albums/15mmterrain/100_1423_Modified.jpg http://www.lassekongo.net/albums/15mmterrain/100_1424_Modified.jpg http://www.lassekongo.ne...

I was on a similar quest recently to find greek buildings for 15mm, and was shocked to find that while I can get WW2 terrain from probably 20 different manufacturers noone is producing a comprehensive set of ancient buildings apart from the odd tatched cottage. I ended up making the buildings myself...

I would say it depends very much on your painting style. Personally I'm not a huge fan of either inking or dipping, in my opinion it darkens the figures too much and obscures the details.

I've been looking into this myself and concluded that OG would be the best option. Normally I prefer the Xyston figures but for the MRR these are all sculpted in "stabbing" pose with the pilums overhead, which will most certainly lead to a.) problems ranking up and moving into contact, and...

Dang it, those OG scythians looked great! :)

Maybe Xyston armored cav with headswaps for doric helmet types then?

Figures for lydian cavalry

Hoping some of you history buffs could help me out here: I'm looking for suitable figures for Lydian heavy cavalry, but I'm having a hard time figuring out just how "greek" those cavalrymen would look, and hence what figures to use. At the moment I'm leaning towards Xyston armoured greek c...

Many thanks for the kind comments. I will see in tomorrow's game if I made it gory enough for my enemies to stay clear of it... Lol, good luck, Fredrik! Send us an AAR if time permits, please! Well done on the camp. Well I'm happy to report the enemy was suitably terrified of my evil little ...

Wallachian camp of Vlad Tepes

I just finished up the camp for my Wallachians, inspired by the famous woodcut showing Vlad the Impaler dining among unfortunate victims: http://www.lassekongo.net/albums/Moldavians/100_1410_Modified.jpg The original: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/4/43/Impaled.gif Hopefully it's nasty eno...

Some nice "Invincible Meshwesh" figures would be sweet.

(BTW are those more like the bunny-eared early libyans or Sea Peoples?)

I've said it before and I'll say it again: trying to achieve balance between what is effectively all the armies of all of recorded human history (minus the last 500 years or so) is a mirage. First priority for a historical wargame should be that historical matchups play out the way they should and t...

I am not sure that scenarios as such are appropriate to Ancient battles. The vast majority of battles (that aren't seiges) fall into only two types, the straight forwards line up and have at it (which make up most of the battles we have records of) and the attack on a moving force either by ambush ...

In my opinion, the best way to shake things up is to change the scenario. Most other tournament games have a mechanism whereby you roll for your scenario at the start of the game, why not a similar thing in FOG? For example, take and hold objectives would be a way to make HF viable again - rational...

Well, it can also be fielded as 23+ battlegroups - including the superior guys. Not the easiest army to take down.

Again, as long as you're playing the same scenario over and over again (ie, setup a straight fight and kill as many enemies as possible in a limited timeframe) it doesn't matter how you tweak the rules, you will always eventually end up with a limited set of "viable" armies. Increase the m...

Interesting discussion, this. As someone pointed out earlier in the thread, whatever you do to the rules to change the balance in whatever direction will only create a new super-armytype-of-the-day, it's inevitable when you have thousands of clever competition players world wide spending most of the...

It is my opinion that player skill and luck being equal, the shooty cav army would at least not lose to a combined arms army. By this I mean that a non-shootycav army designed to take on a number of different types of opposing armies in a tournament will either need massive amounts of luck and/or be...
