Re: Portugese units in french service

Its called a Barretina shako - very similar to the Belgic shako.

Most Napoleonic manufacturers have Portuguese figures in Barretina.

Westphalians 1812

One of my FOG-N opponents, Alan, is deeply in love with the Westphalians - he's collected them several times, in different scales, for different rules, and has begun to collect them, once again, in 15mm for FOG-N. Having read the army list several times, he asked me to put forward a few comments/que...

Re: Army of Saxony

I agree that the Saxon heavy cavalry in 1812 should get a better rating - everyone held them in very high esteem because of what they were capable of doing, and it should be reflected in the army list. Both the Garde du Corps and Zastrow Cuirassiers were virtually destroyed when storming the Grand R...

Re: Mixed Nationality Corps 1813-1814

1) I believe the Initiative Level is based on who is the Corps Commander,
eg, if your Corps Commander is Prussian its 3, if Russian its 2, if Austrian its 1, and if Swedish its 0.

2) Yes, France and Central Europe.

Re: Triumph of Nations Supplement

* Hussars with no Lances - is deliberate The Hussars were trained by the Uhlans to use the lance, why ignore this? ToN even includes the Osprey colour drawing showing a trooper from the Pavlograd Hussars armed with one! (Pg 99) :? * Cossacks with no Lances - is deliberate Its their main weapon, why...

Re: Triumph of Nations Supplement

Mine arrived this morning, and it was in my grubby hands about 10mins ago. Lots of army lists!! But I'm a bit annoyed! The some of the errors found in the army lists from the main rulebook that were mentioned in the errata thread have re-appeared in ToN. Was no-one reading the errata thread? e.g. Ru...

Re: Game time

Started out at about 5hrs for a 800pt game due to the learning curve - we're now at 3hrs.

We upped our game to 1000pts and can finish in just over 4hrs.

Myself and the other FOG-N players in my club have no problems with the 3x3 deployment method, and see no need to change it.

Re: Board Sections??

Another cut at things instead of just topical forums: given that there is that wealth of data in existence and only 7 major powers, have country subforums like "All Things Austria" to include all country-specific oobs, historical research posts, army design and doctrine, modelling, tactic...

Re: Anglo-Portugese comments

Its not just the Anglo-Portuguese list that has problems - the French, Russian, and Prussian lists suffer too. I cannot speak for the Austrians or Ottomans as I have no experience or knowledge of either. I can only hope that whoever is doing the lists in the two army books scheduled for release this...

Re: Cossack question

I honestly think we are saying the same thing, but you keep taking these positions like cossacks could successfully charge French Cuirassier head on. I have NEVER made that claim. Kindly stop attributing claims to me that I have never said. But that doesn't make them battle troops. Precisely my poi...

Re: big brigades vs small brigades

Fudging has to come into it sometimes, but as long as its an 'honest' fudge then its fine. For my Peninsular 1811 British army, I've fudged the Guards in the 1st Division into a large unit - they had 1943 effectives, close enough to 2000 for an 'honest' fudge. However, if someone tried to fudge 1500...

Re: big brigades vs small brigades

A 1812 russian brigade being +/- 1600 people ..it is a 4 base brigade For the start of the 1812 campaign, the Russian infantry regiments were virtually up to full strength, numbering some 1000+, with some reaching 1200+! This was done by calling up men to the 2nd (depot) battalion, and sending the ...

Re: Cossack question

This issue of whether Cossacks had or were trained to use lances is as old as Napoleonic wargaming itself in my experience The first recorded usage of the word "Cossack" was in the 14th-century, and was used to describe a lance-armed marauding irregular cavalryman. To even try to say that...

Re: Limber Bases

For other Napoleonic systems, I used the simple method of placing the artillery base behind the limber base when the guns were limbered up - not pleasing to the eye, but it worked. For my FOG-N artillery units, I've recently purchased a number of extra guns off Ebay to place onto my limber bases. Th...
