Have you tried putting your heavy infantry on long hold and letting the opponent come to you. In the meantime sending your substantial cavalry force long to loop around the back of the field and attack from the rear? Your infantry will take a bruising until the cav charges. Also, you would need to b...

I too find Magnesia/Syrian War a very tough battle on very hard., much harder than Dog Heads. I've tried in two different ways (several times each) with unsatisfying results. Mind you I eventually won, but only in the ugliest of ways. My force is without screening troops, no velites, no skirmishers....

I would love to see sequels expand the storyline elements of the game with more decision forks and possibilities. If the campaigns were more limited in historical scope and followed the carriers of individual generals, think of the possibilities. The Gallic Wars at Caesar's side. Alexander, Hannibal...

moj, Brittanicus can be played on the MAC. See the conversation between Possum and myself in which he talked me through installing the Brittanicus mod on my MAC. http://slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1215 It is definitely worth the trouble to install it. In many ways it was my favorite campaign.

2nd Macedonian is also known at Dog Heads. There is a pretty extensive post about Dog Heads here. http://slitherine.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=608

My strategy in battles like this one is to make sure the scrum happens on the ground of my choosing. Given Philip's strength in heavies, that means clearing the heights and turning his battle line up onto the ridge. I would deploy my troops in 4 columns. The big picture is clear the ridge line, then...

Hannibal has a potent force here, spread out in his classic weak center, strong flanks deployment. My strategy has been to try to be sure the bulk of the battle happens on the ridge, where Hannibal's best troops will be at a disadvantage, particularly his cavalry. My 4 legions charge the left flank,...

The victory conditions are win in under 300 minutes, which should be more than enough time. Nonetheless, Hannibal has a potent force here, spread out in his classic weak center, strong flanks deployment. Alalia is a battle that is not so hard if you can force the enemy out of their battle plan and into yours. Since they have high quality main line troops and poor quality light troops, the place to make the battle happen in on the ridgeline. If you can bring them up there (particularly if you can for...

My approach is closer to your second strategy. I divide my army into 4 columns. 3 aux charge down the ridge line in a single column, take out the berserkers, and then occupy the highlands. My 3 legions march in a column to the left of the aux and in the open ground. They end up behind the aux as the...

One thing that I hope will be fixed in future follow-up is the tendency of units to not follow orders. I order my troops to move to a particular point on the deployment screen, and the next thing I know they decided to race into the fray all on their own. Also, getting troops to stick to the terrain...
