I purchased the game today and have the very same problem!
Official serial number sent to me by storesupport@slitherine.co.uk, doesn't work and I can't play and even install the game! In the installer, I enter my serial number and got the error: "Invalid serial number"

There's a problem though with the Gates of Troy launcher (Windows 10). When I hit "Play" in the launcher, nothing happens. I have to manually run Troy.exe from the install folder to start the game...
Other buttons strangely work fine - like Manual, site links etc.

Just wanted to ask, do I need Spartan if I'm going to purchase Gates of Troy? Since Gates of Troy is kind of a gold edition of Spartan with all scenarios and campaigns from Spartan included plus the new ones... Which kinda makes original Spartan obsolete I guess?

Just bought the remastered edition of Legion Gold in Steam. Question: is it possible to edit the campaigns? Say, if I want to combine Gaul, Germania, Britannia maps to a single map. Maybe there's a map editor available?
