Re: A Question and Answer Thread
You would probably get a faster response on this type of topic in the main forum. 1) Yes, you can land anywhere but the movement cost of landing varies with the terrain. 2) No, but the trade tab in the ledger basically has that functionality once you learn to use it. 3) I wish there was a good answe...

Re: Question and Answer Thread on Game Mechanics.
Do ships in straits prevent enemy land troops from crossing? I think so, but I am not sure. And a follow-up, what does the ship need to do in order to prevent movement?: A) Start the turn in the strait B) Be in the strait during any impulse in which the land unit is trying to cross C) Have crossed t...

Re: Pictes and Caledonians (probably stopping) turn 200 (SP, balanced)
Thanks Pocus! Yes, supply at sea works well with Pirate ships and okay otherwise. It takes about two to three turns (depending on weather etc.) to sail from Britain and take a region in the Mediterranean. So, Light Warships can just make it if you take a decent city on the first turn of your invasio...

Re: Anyone having fun?
I am having a great time, but I haven't played as Rome yet. I watched a couple videos where players were Rome, and it looked stressful, which I decided was not where I wanted to start. I have played as the Pictes and Caledonians and as Carthage. Both have more modest military objectives and loyalty ...

Re: Pictes and Caledonians (probably stopping) turn 200 (SP, balanced)
Thank you for the complements and suggestions! I learned a couple of new things: 1) Once I reached civilization level 3 I lost the ability to build new pirate ships. I still have the fleets I already built, but I'd like to save them for a special occasion. 2) The Romans can supposedly build legions ...

Re: Pictes and Caledonians (probably stopping) turn 200 (SP, balanced)
So I am now civilization level 3 and ready to start expanding again. While I was distracted, my allies the Belgae hoovered up most of France and western Germany. I don't know how it happened; I didn't help him at all. There are around a dozen regions left to minors and neutrals, but I estimate that ...

Re: Pictes and Caledonians (probably stopping) turn 200 (SP, balanced)
So, I check the legacy board to see how I'm doing. I'm fourth, which feels about right. But in first place is Macedonia accruing around 150 Legacy income per turn. And then Rome is second with around 80 Legacy income and the rest of us are pretty far behind. Okay, so the Macedonians have a pretty go...

Pictes and Caledonians (probably stopping) turn 200 (SP, balanced)
I haven't finished this game, but I wanted to post this because I think the Pictes are a nice faction to learn the game with. I have loved this game so far. But, my empire has become a bit unwieldy and basically what is left in the game is a huge war with Rome which I'm not terribly excited about. I...

Re: Sharing Infrastructure in a Province
In my experience, infrastructure sharing always happens and prevents loss of buildings in regions with negative infrastructure income. With 2 caveats: 1) I have never tried having zero buildings being built in a province (because I have heard that no infrastructure accumulates then). 2) The distribu...

Re: Save game directory
Thank you Pocus. I tried copy-pasting the old saved games into a new directory and that seems to have worked. (There were several GB worth of saved games in there already.) I probably had an unusual problem because I had a bad habit of not naming my saved games so that they would overwrite each othe...

AI behavior if you continue playing after losing
I read that you can continue playing after the computer wins a sudden death (3x legacy) victory. If you continue playing, does the AI change at all? I mean, does it keep “trying to win” or does it change its behavior? I was about to lose a sudden death victory to Macedonia, so I sailed from Britain ...

Save game directory
Is it possible to change the location of the saved games directory? I foolishly still have my operating system on a regular drive and I have FoG:Empires on my solid state drive. I have about 600 saved games and it is taking like 3 minutes to save a new game. It didn't take this long in the early tur...
