No, any American armies got the extra 100 points, but I think everybody took an army with 900 points

No, only light horse and light foot can turn 180 and move.
Cavalry can pass a complex move test, CMT, to move backwards 2MU, ending facing the same direction

Yeah, that's gone a bit wrong in wording.
It can happen that a Scythed Chariot meets new enemy in the Joint action phase, after it has pursued a different enemy. Then it should not be removed, as it has only just contacted it
