How big should a raiding party be?

How big should a raiding party be?

Hello,

So I have been trying this rading thing for a while. With boats and infantry. It looks like most of the times raiding fails for some reason.
I have a stack of pirate ships with combat power of 40+ and I'm trying to raid region with defense value of 10. Raid fails...
This raiding party was over 400% bigger then the defenses but it still managed to fail. So my question is how big does the raiding party has to be and what kind of things affect the raid?

combat power of defender + 3x region defensiveness + special structure like watch tower versus your own combat power.

Here it's 30 for them compared to 40 for you, unless they have an army ...

If between 2x and 50% your chance of success is 30%.

Favor region with very low defensiveness.
