Kradschutzen

Post by jaywalker32 »

Is there a reason why there are no camouflage choices for the Kradschutzen? In the unit's camouflage page there are no camo schemes, and only a button that supposedly applies an existing scheme to all other units, which doesn't even work.

My game is patched up to v1.01.01, and this is the first time I have selected Krad units for my core force. So I don't know if this camouflage anomaly has existed since the initial release of the game, or if it was triggered by one of the update patches. I did try buying another type of recon unit, changing its camouflage, and then upgrading it to a Krad. The camo scheme that was applied to the original unit was retained by the Krad, but of course there is no way of changing it as there are no choices.

BTW, I agree with earlier postings that many of the unit sounds need to be improved. Now that I have tried the Krad, this seems all the more necessary, as the sound assigned to that unit ( and I don't mean to be rude) is just like a wet f**t .

TL:DR.
Yes there is a reason. No I don't know when it will be fixed.

And the explanation.

With regards materials and camo, we have 4 types. Infantry, vehicle, aircraft and ships. This is because, broadly speaking, they're not compatable technically, historically or aesthetically. You don't put ship camo on a tank, you don't put infantry camo on a ship. So to save the camo panel including hundreds of camo samples, most of which will be irrelevant, we filter them to only those that are appropriate.
So select a tank and open the camo panel .. you're only shown vehicle camo.
Select an aircraft. .. you're only shown aircraft camo.
Select infantry .. you're only shown infantry camo
Select a ship .. hazard a guess.

So what category does the motorcycle with a rider fall into and which camo should be shown?

As it happens the game is actually trying to give you both options, but only showing the skins that have both vehicle and infantry materials included. So the camo swatch you're selecting actually includes material definitions for vehicles, ships, aircraft and infantry. These will only be a small subset of the default textures, since we soon realised the default infantry texture made no sense for infantry as they needed an entirely different system. So the fact there's any at all is actually because I made an error by including infantry in some default skins.

So the bikes have slipped through. There is at least one other similar example for which we had a solution. Instead of a motorcycle the Bridge engineers have a set of pontoon pieces on a trailer. So we had to decide which one too prioritise since we couldn't camouflage both. So the pontoon stays its base colour, and the infantrys camo is the one we decided to change.
We'd like wise have to make a similar decision for the Krad but this time I'd assume it would be in favour of the motorcycle.

It'll be flagged and added to the list.

and why not adding others customizations for units? like the possibility to add a big " cross" or a big "star" on the units ?? (and not just a small invisble icon)

Every piece of insignia is positioned and scaled individually, by hand, by way of a 'socket' object. If you want extra big insignia on every one of the 600+ units, then a socket object has to be added, positioned and scaled, tested, tweaked and retested on every single vehicle.

Thanks for volunteering.

BTW many American vehicles DO have large insignia on the rear engine decks.

Having just release my own major mod for a game, I laughed at the "Thanks for volunteering." bit :D. You know though, people DO actually volunteer to do stuff like this in the modding community. But I mostly laughed because I understand the feeling so well :D.

Just "my-Opinion"... my take is that in "THIS-FORUM"... that you would very-likely have little trouble finding 'Volunteers' to help out with 'Customization' work or to assist with planned PzC2 'Modding'... or to even suggest their own 'Modding ideas' that could be looked at for development purposes ['Core Game' or otherwise]... even if its just for Mods that can be tapped into for download and used by owners of the Game!.

Nothing ventured!... Nothing gained!.

I really don't want to be annoying, but... On that note, a few unit models do not blend in well in terms of scale at the moment, IMHO:

For example the Polikarpov I-16, which seems somewhat too big in size, as it was a rather small and compact aircraft (Length: 6.13 m, Wingspan: 9 m). The same is true at least for the "generic" Patrol Boat (the one that Norwegians use in "Norway North/South") – this one appears WAY too big in comparison with the other naval assets. The German Heinkel He 111 bomber could be a little bigger, though – at least for my taste.

As the asset files are somewhat "locked down" for modders who don't have acces to Unity3D editing software, I wonder if these values could be adapted to personal preference by means of hex editing. (I understand that there are two entries with respect to scaling in the *.uasset files of the units in their respective subfolders.)

Oh - and I "hereby volunteer"! :)
