Revealing Troop Quality??

Post by Blathergut »

When do you reveal troop quality? As BGs are deployed? When they first fight/test?

As each BG or group of BG's is deployed you would reveal their quality, armour, weapons etc.

As deployed. Pretty much read it off your spreadsheet list or use shorthand if familiar to your opponent - proper Knights, Numidians, veteran Legionaries, for example. If everything is drilled or undrilled you can say so at the start. The point is informing the opponent.

As others said, as you deploy them. There are exceptions though. The only example I can think of is Syracusan Rowers disguised as Hoplites. I'm sure there will be others.

My regular opponents and I like to use slips of paper from a smallish note pad. The notes tell the info that appears on the descriptions listed in the starter army lists. They are kept behind the BGs.......It saves time when our old fart brains overload when asked "what the heck were/are those guys (again and again)??"

Grab someone's old business cards and write the info on the back, then rubber band the set for each army - or as someone has done here for War of the Roses, color print info cards with appropriate crests on cardstock and cut them out for a sharp look.

Since I use metallic bases I use magnetic sheet which I have cut out so that it is deeper than the base causing a protruding edge. I then use my color printer to make some sort of colored identifier (or a complete description if there is enough space) and stick it to the part of the magnetic sheet that extends beyond the base. I then stick that to the bottom of my units. They are removeable which is handy and they are so thin that they don't get in the way. For battlegroups you really only need one for each "type".

You can get the magnetic sheet at any arts and crafts store such as Michaels in the U.S.
