Mouse issue

Post by nemesisuk »

After installing the game and all of the updates, when I go into the tutorial, the mouse develops extreme lag, to the point the game is unplayable.

Before I go into the Tutorial, the mouse is fine.

Is there a fix for this?

That is a pretty low power video card. You can likely improve performance by reducing or disabling shadows, and ensuring AA is set to none.

Thank you for your advice.
I have done this, and it has improved it, however it still makes playing the game difficult.
I am surprised that my graphics card cannot deal with the graphics in this game. I can run and play all of the Total War games, plus Dishonored 1 & 2 without any issues, yet this game, with its near static graphics seems to be power hungry, so much so, that my graphics cards cannot deal with it.

One point I would make is your "REQUIREMENTS" for this game
OS
Windows 7, 8, 10

Processor
2GHz processor

Memory
4 GB Ram

Disk Space
2 GB

SoundCard
DirectX Compatible

Graphics Card
1 GB DirectX 9 Compatible

I am a bit of a computer idiot, but what I would say is going by the vague requirements on your game page, my machine should run Field of Glory without any issues, would you agree or disagree?

Slitherine's system requirement information is weak for sure. They should at least have a bare minimum model number for both major GPU manufacturers as reference. That said, the R5 230 is an end of life product at this point. Back in 2014, it was a budget video card and it wasn't even good at gaming back then. Its fine for desktop use but thats about it. Even APUs in low power laptops at this point have graphics capabilities that blow the R5's out of the water.

I am personally shocked that you can play modern total war games at all. Warhammer 2's min video card is a 5770HD on the AMD side and that is 3.5x more powerful than what you have.

That said if you want to see if you can get it playable, try going into the options menu and selecting "Windowed" option. Then go to resolution and run it at 1600 x 900. This will cut the GPU workload to about 66% of what it needs to run at your native 1080p resolution and get you a 40% bump in frames per second. If that is still unacceptable, go down to 1280x720. That should get you more than double the FPS on your native 1080p monitor.

Thanks Mike for your comment.

I know my graphics card is rubbish, but it was all I had at the time that would fit my Dell Optiflex 780 SFF.
I might have to look into trying to find a low profile decent graphics card, and hope it will fit, as there not a lot of room in the Dell. Not that I am fully up to speed on graphic cards, but I will give it a go.

I tried your suggestions and it did improve it, enough to a point it is playable, but it is still poor that the is not a minimum and recommended graphic card requirement, because as far as I was concerned, it would have run on my machine without a hitch using their requirement statement.

I am not sure what country you are in (UK based on posting time?) and what type of budget you are working on but the best bet for a sub GBP $100 price point option is to find a low profile Nvidia card based on the Nvidia GT 1030 chip. The GT 1030 offers over 6x the increase in graphics power compared to your R5 230 and sips 30W of power which should be more than manageable for the 240W PSU that comes with the Optiflex 790 (this is the one you have, not the 780). I wouldn't spend much more on that given how old your existing platform is (the i5 2400 is also very close to end of life for anything other than light gaming and browsing) and if FoG2 is indicative of the titles you play, you won't need much more than that at this point.

Thanks Mike.

Yes I am in the UK, and I have a Gigabyte GeForce GT 1030 2GB Low Profile Graphics Card saved in my bookmarks as it was the one I was thinking of getting.

Most of my gaming is light gaming, and most of the game are ones published 2000-2012 roughly. I am not one of the serious gamers, so looks like the GT 1030 should fit the bill.

Thanks very much for your help, much more useful and helpful than Slitherine.
