[SOLVED] Not a BUG: v1.1.1 Cannot choose folder for installation

Post by uneducated »

SOLUTION: First install the game, then install the update.

Slitherine support rapidly diagnosed the issue by asking the file name I was trying to install. I was installing the wrong file first, the update.

Do you have to install all of the updates/hotfixes or just the last one? Slitherine Answer: No, updates are comprehensive.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Observed Behaviour: After downloading the 1.1.1 update, activating the serial, and proceeding with installation, the only option is to install onto the C: drive, and the folder there cannot be changed.

Expected Behaviour: The installer offers the user the option to select the preferred installation folder

This is a basic functionality which should of course be provided by default. We all have different storage situations and file system nomenclatures. Please fix this quickly and ask yourself why it wasn't part of the installer by default.

Since the updater on the launcher wouldn't work to update the game, I uninstalled the game to try and have a clean installation from a manual download. Now I can't play the game as it is no longer installed, and can't be installed because of shortage of space on the C: drive, the only drive to which the game will install.

This is a critical bug, in my opinion.

Doesn't this depend on the distributor (Steam, Epic, GoG...) rather than the game itself?

I suspect it does - but I also suspect that the OP has brought the game direct from Slitherine (the other platforms auto update don't they?) so he's probably in the right place.

Hopefully a Dev see's this soon.

Just to check - the updater will only update to where the original game was installed to. Or are you trying to do an initial fresh install?

Cheers

The updater correctly identifies the location of the already installed game. My confusion was that I was trying to install the update, rather than the game.

Glad you solved it!
