Private message system blowing a gasket!

I wanted to send a group private message to the 90 players who have entered the FOG2DL this season, but when I pressed "send" it was just hanging. I re-tried a few times to no avail and gave up thinking I would try again later. But then I checked my "Sent" box and it had gone 10 times! I assume there is no way to delete them now as one irate players has already opened them all? But, in general, is there a maximum limit to the number of recipients the system can safely handle in one PM?
