[mod] Airborne Artillery/AT

Post by diday »

Panzer Corps 2 made my old WW2 itching come back so since I had a little bit of time I played around with my basic understanding of files.
I created this combo unit: 7,5-cm-Leichtgeschütz 40 [wikipedia], an airdrop Artillery/Anti-Tank.
Please bear with me about the graphical representation of the unit, since I have no knowledge (nor skills) in 3D on this engine, I shamelessly took the US M1 75mm unit sprite. Mostly for identification purposes for the player.

The stats are pretty simple:
- the Artillery mode will underperform compared to the basic artillery ingame (-2 soft, - 2 hard attack)
- the AT mode will perform better than the pak36 (+2 hard attack)
- airdrop capacity (be careful, you lose the attached land transport when you do that, as for any other unit)
A little bit overkill but I'm not yet decided about that: I gave it a base movement of 2 in order to be able to follow the troops once dropped in the field.
The price and slot cost is debattable, I don't have strong opinion about it as I didn't play with it for an extended time.

If you want to add this unit to your pool, follow those steps:
- open the files units.csv in the following folder (I recommend to open it with notepad as Excel can mess with it): <you steam install folder>\steamapps\common\Panzer Corps 2\PanzerCorps2\Content\Data
- copy those two lines at the end of the units.csv file

Code: Select all

75mmLG40Art,"NSLOCTEXT('units','75mmLG40Art','7.5 cm LG 40')","NSLOCTEXT('units','75mmLG40Art','7.5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40')",Artillery,Soft,Towed,10,TRUE,FALSE,6,TRUE,FALSE,0,TRUE,FALSE,1,TRUE,FALSE,4,5,0,10,3,1,2,20,6,0,"(Paratrooper,ArtySupport,SuppressingFire,MineKiller,EntKiller2)",M175mmPackHowitzer,"(DE)",LightGun,320,4,01.01.1940 - 01.01.1948,75mmLG40AT
75mmLG40AT,"NSLOCTEXT('units','75mmLG40Art','7.5 cm LG 40')","NSLOCTEXT('units','75mmLG40Art','7.5 cm Leichtgeschütz 40')",AntiTank,Soft,Towed,2,TRUE,FALSE,16,TRUE,FALSE,0,TRUE,FALSE,1,TRUE,FALSE,10,5,0,10,10,1,0,20,5,0,"(Paratrooper,ATSupport,NoPurchase)",M175mmPackHowitzer,"(DE)",LightGun,320,4,01.01.1940 - 01.01.1948,75mmLG40Art
- the unit is available after 1.1.1940 in the artillery tab (start a barbarossa campaign for instance in order to check if the unit is here)
- (thanks to @Magic1111 for the information!) you need to either start a new campaign (if you want to use the unit right away) or simply wait until the end of your scenario (or load the last turn save of the previous one), at the start of a new scenario the unit will be there

I would love to have some thoughts about this unit, and if you have some ideas please share. :)

In Panzercorps 1, changes to the equipment file always took effect with the beginning of the next scenario within the campaign.
It was not necessary to start from scratch.

Isn't that the case now?

BTW, great MOD!

Yay! You are right thank you very much!
I don't have experience in modding Panzercorps 1 so I didn't know, I'll check the old threads to see if I can use some of this knowledge.

Honestly any weapon platform that can fit in a Ju 52 should be able to use air transport from airfields if available in the transport pool. Examples would be 3.7 and 5cm PaK.

It's already possible to airborne transport (from airfield to airfield) the light guns. I created this unit in order to add the paradrop ability (drop anywhere, not just in an airfield).
The idea is to accompany my paratroopers for defense purpose once a strategic position is taken far away from the front.

Are you suggesting to add the paradrop ability to all light artillery?
I don't think it's necessary because it would make a lot of duplicated units since I want the price to reflect the training and the specific material. I don't want to just slap the paratrooper ability everywhere at no cost.

OH I see. Sorry I misunderstood the airtransport via airfields vs paradrop.
