PSA: Read the briefing!

So here I am in America, brute forcing myself over the few available crossings of the Mississippi river.

I've got several battered units now (no total loses thankfully though a few close calls) and several bridge heads. It should all be over now bar the inevitable armoured counter attack(s) that I'm sure will be coming from the west. The prestige cost was/is/will be huge for this one

Maybe I should have paid attention in the briefing where I was told I'd need "to find a way across" and purchased some bridging engineers

In my defence I've rarely used them since my tanks can cross minor rivers with no problem - but yeah the briefing made it quite clear and that major river spanning the map really should have clued me in!

My approach is clearing the entire east bank, and then only breaking through that triangular area where the Arkansas and Mississippi rivers meet, right where it says 'Mississippi'. Advance with your tanks south, and send your top infantry through the hills in the north, flanking the defenders on the west bank. There's a pretty nasty surprise in the SW corner of the map, but once you're past the river, the mission is effectively over.

That is also where I crossed, but I did also have a northern force which had a little rougher time, but crossed fairly well up by Minnesota. The crossing there is pretty smooth if you have a bridging eng.
