Troubleshooting Tip for Campaigns -- Scenario Won't Play

Post by conboy »

If you have a scenario in a campaign that loads normally, and it does not play, it is possible that there is some sort of memory issue with that spot in the campaign. It attempts to reload a scenario that isn't really there, only parts of it that are lodged in the campaign memory.
Symptoms
1) You cannot cursor around the campaign map normally,
2) You can click on units but cannot do anything once they are clicked.
These are the main symptoms.

What you can do to correct the problem is have the scenario look for the correct file in a different place, meaning, CHANGE THE SCENARIO NAME in the Campaign scenarios slider bar and in all the campaign branch settings that refer to it. Then change the name in the Campaign Scenarios folder. So now it will look for something else instead of grabbing the bogus item stuck in memory.

Or you can do it another way, which is harder and you will lose any events associated with the scenario (which is how I ended up fixing it before realizing it was a stuck memory issue),
Delete the campaign from the Scenarios slider bar, delete it from the campaign branch settings, put a new scenario in at the end, rename in the campaign scenario folder, fix the scenarios in the Campaign Settings to where they point to the newly renamed scenario. Even if the Scenario is at the end of the campaign branch settings, as long as you have it pointed to correctly, correctly named, and it points to the correct results in the scenario settings, it will work.

This issue has caused me so much grief but now that I know what causes it and how to deal with it, I probably will never encounter it again.

This is basically a note to files so that maybe someone else can avoid the last resort fix, which is to delete the campaign and restructure it from scratch.
