Denied Airforce Trait

Post by colberki »

With the Denied Airforce trait selected, will I at least able to upgrade the air units that I started with? Else, the will be rather obsolete later in the game.

Nope.

Honestly, this trait isn't even much of a negative if you start at the later points, you are basically given all the airforce you really require from the get go.

Yes.

Until the starting models are obsolete.

The biggest concern with this trait to me are the 2 navy heavy scenarios.
Sealion and "Oceanlion". How am I supposed to handle US East Coast with not even Aux Airforce vs those long range Battleships that prioritize my AA?
Might be interesting to find a solution but I dont want to play that long only to notice that I cant progress.

If they prioritize AA you could have a second AA nearby as backup, or rely on more armored AA, though they are weak against strategic bombers (I think you have access to the Möbelwagen at that point). Probably inconvenient still, but should not be game breaking.

Many of the negative traits are not practical ways to conquer the world.
They are 'Challenges' for the better players to test their mettle.

For PzC1 the developers didn't bothered to unlock 'Ultimate', they didn't think people could do it.
They watched in amazement that people did.

So for PzC2 they built in options to make the game both harder and easier.
The goal is to make the game interesting for as many players as possible.
If you wait long enough, someone here will invade the USA with 'Denied Airforce' trait, and win.
But just because something is possible doesn't make it a good idea.
If you take the historic route, the trait is just a minor handicap to victory.

As a side note, in early Beta for Dunkirk the sinking of the British ships was required for Victory.
Now the sinking is a Bonus Objective, so players picking the 'Denied Airforce' trait aren't stopped so early in the campaign.
There comes a time on every project when it is time to shoot the engineer and ship the damn thing.

Invading the US without an airforce is not a big problem, because the southern setup zone reaches land in 1 turn, and the northern can avoid contact until it reaches shore. Very unrealistic, but it's a game. Now that you are on land, your overlapping 88s will make you virtually immune to bombing, and the ships you no longer need. Problem solved.
