Next patch request.

Post by superman81906 »

I don't know all of the issues that need to be fixed, but this is what I thought would improve the game.

1. Instead of all your heroes surviving when a unit gets completely destroyed, (seems too gamey and easy to me), have an option in the menu that will give them a percentage to survive. Say a choice between 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% chance that your hero will come back from a destroyed unit.

2. Instead of letting an enemy unit retreat for 3 hexes in a row, halve their movement points so they only get one or two hexes in retreat per turn, so they quit running across the map. Or a variation of this that makes sense.

3. Make sure all the traits and bonuses for units apply correctly, many other players have pointed these out specifically on the forum.

4. Give players the option to choose some of the killer team heroes, since we just keep restarting anyway to get some of the ones we want. Maybe choose one, our favorite, then the other two are random? Or have a point system like the leader traits?

5. Extract the flags and camo into a file, so players can create their own flags and camo easily.

Ehhh, I wouldn't want to see half of these 'improvements'

1. No. If you don't like heroes, don't use them/impose your own personal restrictions on them. Losing heroes to RNG is definitely going to piss people off who like them. No one is stopping you from grabbing some dice and rolling your own hero result. 1-3 no effect, 4-6, you disband your hero. Done.
2. No. Make more/better encirclements. Retreating isn't free movement. It doesn't need a subrule that governs movement differently for normal/retreat based movement. Movement is movement. It's already complex enough with movement types/terrain types.
3. Yes, but such a blanket statement is not at all helpful for them. A documented list of issues they can target fixes for would certainly be appreciated by those who have the power to make fixes.
4. Wouldn't say no to this option. I definitely admit to having done a few rounds of 'killer team rerolls'. :)
5. I look forward to easier access to modding, but I dunno nor can say how quickly this will happen.

Okay for heroes, immortal for they can be several persons under one.
But not for super-heroes, some are really too strong, moreover with combos. Something is needed to balance them.

1. This is why I requested an OPTION to make heroes mortal in the MENU, and you can pick a percentage chance they will survive, for those that want them immortal and live 100% do not pick this option. And who said I don't like heroes?
2. Right now units are retreating through my zones of control, so setting up units to get a mass attack and have the enemy keep escaping is counter productive.
3. They know what fixes they need, they have already been covered by other players.

And just so you know, ANY option to the menu that lets players choose how they want to play their game is an IMPROVEMENT, period. And if you are a content creator for this game, too bad, you sound like a jerk off, go roll your own fking dice.

Let's try and remain civil in conversations for 3 reasons.
1. No games developer has ever changed something because a player was rude to then! 2. Someone disagreeing with what you think isn't cause to be rude and even games developers are human and have a right to have a preference. 3. These forums have always had a good friendly vibe to them, we should aim to keep that!

As to your points.

1) I agree this could/should be an option in the menu.

2) I agree with Kerenskey on this, I don't want to see different rules for the same thing (in this case movement) depending on situation. However would it be possible for retreats in to enemy ZOC to use a units entire movement? That's consistent with movement rules

3) That's a given. But be sure to report anything you notice in the bugs thread!

4) 100% this. I'm still on my campaign and rerolled for my killer team 3 times!

5) I'm not an avid modder but do quite often tweaking every game a little for my own personal taste. I'm more interested in the scripting for scenarios as that's more likely where I'll do anything here. Whilst not a priority for me I'm sure it is for others!

Read the guys answer to #1 again, he acted like the idea was stupid, assumed I did not like heroes, and told me to go roll dice. Along with putting "improvements" in quotes like my ideas were invalid or something. It was he that was rude, I just responded in the same manner as he did. And their are MANY players that like this idea, not just me, if it gets very popular is he going to tell them all to go roll dice too?

Whilst the reply could have been worded more diplomatically it's not what I'd call rude.

Anyway my play nice comment was aimed at everyone (including myself!)

I have nothing against options, and Panzer Corps 2 comes with more customization options than... well pretty much anything in recent memory. Most games don't even allow you to customize a single thing beyond choosing the difficulty setting.
But I tell you, the devs (not me, the actual developers, you know the people with their logo on the game) put a hell of a lot of time and effort to turning on all those options. And then even more to make sure they work right.

So if there's something that the player can do, I'm of the opinion maybe the player should just do it of their own accord. This goes triple for any controversial changes that affect the enjoyment of others, such as nerfing or killing heroes. Or nerfing prestige rewards to cater to the ultra elite minority who thrive on the edge of low/no prestige.

As has been said elsewhere, movement changing retreat is unnecessary over-complication not to mention quite overpowering. The simplest encirclement is 2 units on the opposite ends of a single unit. I would raise my eyebrow pretty far if a unit retreating from that situation was having it's entire movement pool destroyed to the same level as if that unit was entering extremely difficult terrain such as a river hex.

As someone who's not a developer it's easy to forget just how much work/effort goes into making what we think are simple changes!

And I do know enough about computers and programming to know that even the simplest changes can have unforseen (and sometimes really bad) consequences! It's good to be reminded every now an again 😁

That said I still think Hero deaths are Some thing that would be good as an option. Until then I'll just use your option and dice for it (It's not like I loose core units all that often!)

It's worth noting that I have the will power to do this and no longer need iron man options, i have more fun when I can lose/have a close fight rather than steam roller my opponent! That said in my youth I 100% needed those options as I was a bit of a sore loser (unit lost...reload. didn't kill the enemy....reload!)

As to the retreating point, I see where youre coming from with that. 2 unit emcirclements are a bit "cheap" but then on the other end of the scale what If its 5 units surronding a unit? Should that change things?

As a fan of keeping it simple (It's a beer and pretzel game and NOT Gary Grimsby War in the east series!) I think I'd rather it was left as is. To be honest I haven't had any trouble yet killing units so long as I focus fire as needed!

Not sure why you keep referring to my request of hero survivability as a forced change for everyone, or "affect the enjoyment of others", what don't you understand about this? I requested a change IN THE OPTIONS for players that want some RNG, excitement, uncertainty, mortality, and consequences to their hero survival upon losing an entire unit, AS AN OPTION, (not controversial due to being an OPTION, or maybe it is just to YOU personally). The fact that they are 100% usable again to me is gamey and a baby level war game choice, and many others obviously agree. The work the devs put in is excellent, and in the future, if the past is any indication, the community will put in just as much or more time adding to this game also, helping their sales. And my request can be added by the mod community as well, I would have already if I had the knowledge to do so, and NO, I don't want to break the immersion by "rolling dice". And why do you refer to the players that may want the game harder for them with less prestige as "ultra elite minority", a disparaging name that implies that they think they are better than everyone else. I have seen some posts asking for this to balance the game better, and since the game is still new, how do you know it is or is not a viable concern or request from players that love the game like everyone else? You seem way too defensive about these topics and may not have the emotional neutrality to possibly represent the devs and this game or whatever your CD title is or means to this game, if anything at all?
