What do i need to take in to consideration when playing pbem

Post by ftgcritt2 »

I recently downloaded the game from slitherine, so I am assuming that I have the latest version (1.07???). Just a few days ago, I tried to start my first pbem game, and I got an error message saying that my opponent was using an older version of the game. Is there a patch that allows different versions to play together? If I have 1.07, can I only play 1.07 opponents?

People need the same version to play - the only way to fix this is to get your opponent to upgrade to the latest version.

Which is not as hard as it sounds. It's merely a matter of downloading the patch :)

Where it gets awkward is when you have more than one game going at a time. I am currently playing a PBEM game that's on turn 83, so we've been at it a while.

We started before v1.07 was released, and we're both using v1.06 with the Java hotfix. So if I wanted to play a PBEM game against you, I'd need to make a copy of my CEAW directory, and upgrade that copy.

Then I could simply make a new shortcut on my desktop, naming it something like "CEAW V1.07", and pointing it at the executable in the second directory.

In short, it's all easily do-able. There are known work-arounds for all the limitations. If you need detailed step-by-step directions, we can provide those, too :)
