It works.

It gives you a deployment phase (turn 0) in the first scenario, where you can buy/disband/upgrade as you please.

Perhaps that should have been better described, I would have expected an empty battlefield with full prestige points. Not that I have to manually dissolve the units, even if it only takes a few seconds.

Yeah, I too wondered why the battlefield was not empty, until I discovered that I could remove units and buy new ones. Not sure if this is part of the same selection, but I do like that I can place units in reserve in any minimalist form I want, preserving their experience while saving prestige and unit slots. For instance I can take an excess, experienced overstrength pioneer with a halftrack that I don't need in an operation, and demote him to bridge infantry with minimum troops, then place him in reserve, saving loads of prestige points and space slots in the process that I can apply, for instance to purchase a new unit needed for that operation.
