Retreat Mechanic

Post by janscas »

Hi all

The retreat mechanic in PC was very easy to understand.

Now It's difficult because I have to calculate each time the 66% of the unit unsuppressed strength. It's not so difficult but you have to think about every time.

It would be much better to have some visual indication that the unit will retreat on the next attack.

Totally agree. It is also kinda hard to figure out if tanks will surrender or not.

While I don't disagree... I just adapted my game play to the situation.

If I'm not sure if a unit will retreat, I hit it with extra artillery. And if I'm sure it will retreat, but it doesn't... there's no shame in the occasional undo.

It would be super simple if some kind of visual effect could be applied to units willing to retreat.

On the other hand, did the different unit commanders in World War 2 no for sure when an oppsoing enemy unit they were attacking would retreat or not?

Exactly. So I don't find it horrendous that we, in this particular game, don't always know for sure either.

You always know for sure unless you didn't do math at school.

If you kill or suppress 66% of the unit unsupressed strength the unit will retreat.

The point was, don't do the math and just play. The retreat will be a surprise, just like in real life.

None. In the Game Manual.
