Design notes for Stikelstad c1030AD

This is a battle that may have grown in the telling. The Anglo-Saxon Chronicle entry for 1030 states that,
“This year returned King Olave into Norway; but the people gathered together against him, and fought against him; and he was there slain, in Norway, by his own people, and was afterwards canonised . . .”

This suggests that Olaf Haraldsson, who had actually been deposed by Canute in 1028 and therefore was no longer king, was killed in battle. But other writers, such as Adam of Bremen, writing in the 1070s, records that Olaf was killed in an ambush, as does Florence of Worcester, who was writing some 30 years later.
However, in the decades following the canonisation of Olaf in 1164, a legend developed around the idea that he was killed in battle and it this notion that has been accepted for this scenario.
Army points – Peasant army (pro-Canute) 906pts, Rebel army (pro-Olaf) 854pts.
