Well the period is "Eternal Empire - The Ottomans at war"

Better than a 'Roman' period with no Roman armies which was a very common occurence under DBM

I make it 11 different armies out of a possible 21

As we are the only people using them I can now confidently claim that Later Poles are quite obviously the new Lithuanians.

In response to your request: it appears that the New Zealand rugby team have actually won the Webb Ellis trophy. Oh no, you are still asleep and dreaming of 2011

I wished I'd passed out at several points, and so I believe did at least 2 of our opponents.

Conclusion - I won't be entering any more themed comps where theres a strong chance of facing 900AP of predominantly LH armies several times. :(

The 5-6 hours spent playing Chalons at the Challenge convinced me that I really don't want to endure a weekend of such boredom either.
Having said that, I will have to play FOG in Lisbon if NZ is to field a team for ITC :( :(
As you suggest, I'll pick a theme with few LH.

As the Ottomans(the largest army there, and seven at Challenge) don't have anything to stand against Knights they have to rely on shooting, otherwise they just die on the points of the Knights lances. Not having many infantry armies in eternal empire one proper the Catalan company (three armies there) you would face knights and Cavalry armies with large LH troops. I've always been told don't fight Knights head on, but thats just me. I'm like you too a certain extent I am for the next two or three comps entering those that don't go later than 1150 or that have the ability to split the books.

Leeds Doubles in July will be using Swifter than Eagles trust that will be early enough, not seen it yet to see any army pitfalls and Derby in December will be Wolves from the Sea and Oath of Fealty pre Knight period, that should be enough handfulls of dice thrown with all those spearwall clashes

I'm not saying the Ottomans (and similarly the Lithuanians etc) should have done anything different, just that playing 3.5 hours of a game where your only interest is in whether you get enough terrain to perhaps allow you to shove the enemy off table right at the end of the allotted time probably isn't for me - and taking a LH army to "be the other player" in such a game won't be for me either.

Anyways, Leeds clashes with Devizes, so my one Biblical army probably has to wait another year anyway

Sorry David, but as with DBM, I have no desre to play great masses of shieldwall where the only anticipation is waiting for the 1st 6-1 or double-drop.
However a good cure for insomnia

I actually reckon that period would be much better. At least all of your men should actually get to fight, you have to make tough decisions about where and when you commit your generals, and the interactions between offensive spear, def spear, Hvy Weapons and the mounted lancers are quite thought provoking, and terrain should actually play a part as well. Its the skirmish and shoot rubbish thats the grind for me!
