Did not think this could happen?

Post by Triarii »

This is an interesting one.

Currently playing a friendly and this unusual combat resulted from pursuit.
At the end of my previous turn Arab Armoured cavalry and Bedouin Cavalry routed an LC unit directly in front of Byzantine Lancers
The rout was initiated by a pursuit from a different combat by Arab Armoured Cavalry (AC2) arriving here:-

BL1 BL2 BL3
BLC
AC2 AC1 BC1

AC2 hit the Byzantine LC (BLC) in the flank while they were disrupted and in combat with Arab Armoured Cav 1 (with General) and Arab Bedouin Cav 1 (BC1 also with General)
This obviously broke the BLC and AC2 chased the routing BLC off to the right and out of the picture .. no more about them.

Now it gets interesting; In the pursuit and in this order, BC1 pursued directly forward and then charged BL2 disrupting them while AC1 pursued directly forward and charged BL3. This resulted in a crosswise combat. I did not think that was possible?

In the following Byzantine move BL1 flank charged AC1 getting an automatic disruption which at first I did not understand. My initial view being as in screen shot 1 below where in my combat phase another unit AC3 was charged into BL1 and after the pursuit the disrupted AC1 has survived combat with BL1 (flank) and BL3 while in the same combat bound BC1 fragmented BL2.

BL1 BL2 BL3
AC3 AC1 BC1

These other 2 screenshots are of the current situation showing the crosswise combat clearly. Has anyone seen this before?

The crosswise combat is not normally possible, but I guess that in this particular situation, because everything is moving simultaneously, the first combat doesn’t actually exist at the point when the permissability of the second charge is being tested for.

That being the case, it is going to be very difficult (probably impossible) to prevent, and probably will just have to be lived with. Consider that chaotic situations produce chaotic results.

Thanks Richard
I have no problem with it per se - was just very surprised to see it happen.
I am very interested to see how it pans out as I think it is unlikely I shall see it again given this is a first.
