Pursuit and probabilities

Post by CONSTANTINIX »

Hello

I have some questions about pursuit:

What are the probalities of a unit to come back on the map after being pushed outside (but not routed) ?
Is it the same probabilities for the pursuing unit which go also outside ?

After a first round of pursuit, what are the probabilities of the (cavalry in my case) pursuing unit to pursue (if we consider it is faster enough to keep contact with the pursued) ?
Are those probabilities infuenced by others factors (as we can imagine that a veteran unit is more able to keep his nerve) ?

Thanks for any answers.

The one who waits at the edge of the map to gut some escaping cavalry units.

5% per turn.

yes

50% of stopping pursuing each turn for cavalry. Higher for infantry.

In addition, there is the equivalent chance that any pursuers that would leave the map will stop pursuing at the edge of the map instead.
Are those probabilities infuenced by others factors (as we can imagine that a veteran unit is more able to keep his nerve) ?
No. historically some of the most "Superior" cavalry were particularly prone to pursuing.

Hello Richard
In addition, there is a 50% chance that any pursuers that would leave the map will stop pursuing at the edge of the map instead.
Thanks for the additional information. I wasn't perceiving the advantage for the pursuer.

Here is the next part of the story.

I was asking the probabilities of return because two enemy cavalries evaded out of the map.
One came back three turns later
The second five turns later. So a good validation of Murphy's law !
Nevertheless, I had left 3 units in ambush so after a brief pursuit, we got the following position

In this situation, I attacked with my cavalry (red arrow). I was expecting the cavalry to evade in order to avoid at best my other units (so to follow yellow arrow) and to stop in reach of my lancer so I can skewer it. But the cavalry followed the black arrow , so finishing in the back of my two other units (but as a consolation prize , it was caught in the rear by my pursuing cavalry for good effect )

I understood that the ZOC if of no effect. But is there any other rules (even random) in such a case ?
Could the cavalry have gone away
* through square 1, square 2 or square 3 indifferently ?
* only through squares 1 or 2 because the cavalry must go away as much as possible from his initial attacker (and square 3 is too close from the pursuer in this case) and the choice is fifty/fifty between square 1 or 2 ?
* does the orientation of the fleeing cavalry have any effect (it was oriented towards square 1) of the choice between squares ?

Thanks in advance for your knowledge or experience

Its initial move will be directly away from the chargers (square 2). After that it could go either way, but will favour getting nearer to its own side’s base map edge.

Its original facing has no effect.

Till some time before I undestand fully the cavalry move.
In the below situation, I had a lancer (green circle) who disband a light cavalry (red circle). Both went outside the map in one run . The light cavalry seems near enough the edge but is there a special bonus during the pursuit for the lancer cavalry because it seems to me that he outran his normal movement capacity ?

Troops pursuing and being pursued have a 25% chance of moving less than normal, 50% normal, 25% chance of more.
