Hi, as I've previously said I absolutely love this game & it's integration with FoG, superb!
However I definitely am not comfortable with one aspect of the game which is the inability to guarantee that your Generals work to the best of their ability...
The crux is that (repeatedly) I will assign a General to an army based on their ability score, I start the campaign only to discover that my 2-0 Generals campaigning offensively end up fighting on the defensive and therefore my battle hardened troops (all expensively recruited & trained) suddenly turn into timid sheep who break when an enemy unit even looks at them.
Likewise in my Defensive campaigns my armies (with 0-2 generals) are frequently considered to be attacking and become equally ineffective.
Why cant I guarantee that a known Defensive General will act on the defence (Fabius) when campaigning in areas that I own, and likewise an offensive one (Alexander) will attack in enemy territory? After all I will have assigned him to an army with a specific defensive (or offensive) agenda based on his attributes...
That's just wrong imo and I'd like to ask how I can Mod the game to allow this?
Is it as simple as tweaking 'Liaison Tools' in FoG2 or do I need to tweak Empires?
Thanks in advance

Re: Modding Question
Okay the feedback I had from RBS is that I need to tweak the information that Empires is sending for FoG battles to use, apparently it's all done in Empires....
How can I edit the game so that my preferred options (see above) are implemented.... in other words how does Empires send information to FoG2 and how can I tweak it to implement my preferences please?
Or am I on a mission impossible?

Re: Modding Question
Ok obviously I seem insane for posting repeatedly without reply...... however Richard has been able to suggest a work around for my problem....
I will try this out tonight (I game from midnight until 7am every night / morning, insomnia is a bugger)
Altho it would be cool to have the option I desire hard coded (as it were) into the game itself

Re: Modding Question
I feel the same as you, in my opinion there's a problem with the way battles in Empires are managing the "Defense/attack" side of things. I'm going to mention it in the Beta part of the forum because I don't get if this is working as intended or not
Re: Modding Question
How exactly do you see this work in Empires? You'll need to edit the gameplay code in any case.

Re: Modding Question
well, it seems that it is impossible to use a General to the best of his ability, as I stated in the above example....
For me it ADDS to the games immersiveness to be unable to launch invasions of other countries because of my poor generals, I am currently (as Sparta) forced to campaign within my own borders in defensive campaigns because my best General is a 0-2. I dare not even consider attacking another state (except for neutrals or rebels) and am awaiting the system to give me a half decent attacking General.
IMO this IMPROVES the role playing aspect of the game.
As Richard suggested in the other forum I have found a solution that does what I want but I think it would improve the game to have this in place. I think others might agree.

Re: Modding Question
I don’t know if TimDee58 talks about the same thing as I do but I think he does:
Sometimes I feel that a general isn’t defending or attacking when he should be.
For example, something that happened a few days ago : I’m moving out of a region I own (war occupied by me) towards another region I own (legitimately), and an ennemy army comes in and attacks the war occupied region. Then, A battle ensues because my troops can’t escape the occupied region before the arrival of the ennemy. My army is seen as the attacker, while the ennemy is seen as the defender.
Is this Working as designed ? Shouldn’t my army be defending (because I’m standing in a region that I own) and the enemy army attacking ? I’m moving out of a territory that I own towards another territory in my possession, and my foe is moving from his lands to lands that I own. Are things working differently because the battle is happening in an occupied region ?
