Avars 558-631 AD . . .
It has got Nomad Light Horse Archers twice in the army list, once as 0/2 and once as 1+0/3. The other two Avar armies do not have this. Is it a mistake?
Re: Avars 558-631 AD . . .
In the "Decline and Fall" Field of Glory table top army list book the Avars have their own Avar Light Cavalry, plus from 558 to 631 AD they can have subject Bulgar Light Cavalry. So what we see in the FOG2 lists are these two different types. They two types use different models, but have the same name.stockwellpete wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 9:29 am It has got Nomad Light Horse Archers twice in the army list, once as 0/2 and once as 1+0/3. Perhaps they ought to be called "Bulgar"? I don't know if it is the 0/2 or 1+0/3 element.Paul59 wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 9:48 amIn the "Decline and Fall" Field of Glory table top army list book the Avars have their own Avar Light Cavalry, plus from 558 to 631 AD they can have subject Bulgar Light Cavalry. Does it matter? The 1+0/3 are the Bulgars, which is why they are only in the middle list when the Bulgars were subject to the Avars.stockwellpete wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 10:31 amPerhaps they ought to be called "Bulgar"? The only way to give them different names in different army lists would be to have clone units (in the Squads file) for each nation, which would not be a good use of resources.

I assume the riders wearing Phrygian cap are the Avars and the others are the Bulgars or other people.stockwellpete wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 10:31 amPerhaps they ought to be called "Bulgar"? Re: Avars 558-631 AD . . .
This particular unit, it's called Bulgar_LH in the Squads.csv and ArmyList.txt, is actually used in a number of different armies to represent different nomadic horse archer types. In the Magyar army it actually represents Magyar light horse archers. So, as Richard says, it cannot really be renamed as "Bulgar" without it being wrong for several other armies.stockwellpete wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 10:31 amPerhaps they ought to be called "Bulgar"? Re: Avars 558-631 AD . . .
It is also worth noting that though they use several different models, all units called "Nomad Light Horse" have exactly the same stats as each other, as do all units called "Irregular Foot" and all units called "Light Javelin Horse" (in the open beta).
With a finite budget, we need to be able to use models for more than one nation, and this naming scheme allows us to do so, without causing any in-game confusion.
