Skip Replay?

Field of Glory II is a turn-based tactical game set during the Rise of Rome from 280 BC to 25 BC.

Skip Replay?

Hello!
Is it really hard to add to the game a skip replay button (for mp games) like the one which we had in FoG1??? Sometimes I just want to play my turn quickly and I do not really care to see the replay. If it is not hard the skip replay button will have only positives and nothing negative.

Pretty much, yes.

The replay is emphatically not a video of the action.

What FOG2 actually saves to the PBEM server is the position at the start of the other player's turn, and a list of all the actions that occurred during his turn. So the final position at the end of his turn is not restored until the replay has run.

Because (inevitably) updated code may sometimes change how the replay plays out when there has been a game update between turns, it would not help to also save the position at the end of the other players turn, because the final situation might then be different depending on whether the replay is run or not.

I understand this, but it doesn't explain why we have to have the reconstruction played to us.

The computer is perfectly capable of reconstructing the final position without forcing us to watch a graphical representation of it. Why can't we have the option of having this done in the background without it being displayed to us? When you're playing a large battle, especially those with a lot of light troops, it takes absolutely ages.

I play fewer battles and avoid larger battles as a consequence of the amount of time taken up by this replay.

I understand the lack of time, especially with large battles, but I for one couldn't play without watching what my opponent makes of my move/each of my units. For me, his turn is as interesting to watch as mine to play. That's why I prefer smaller battles when I don't have much time.

Byzantine Games doesn't have a direct access to the game engine itself and creating the new (bug free) parallel system would certainly no be a small task. I think vast majority of players would not use the option either which means it would be a lot of work for little gain. If you haven't already, you can turn up the game and unit speeds from settings which should make the replays faster at least.

I don’t like watching the replay when I am losing. So, I spend that time in the partaking of, and then the giving back, of hoppy, malty beverages.
