Indian Archers?

Massed Indian Archers are inferior to the various other nations archers, why.

I understand the other archers were of a skirmish type and the Indians massed, but that should make their firing deadlier, not worse.

Massed Archers are infantry in disguise. They fight almost as well as a regular infantry, but also have a rather decent ranged attack. Not to the level of pure archers though, for balance reason.
