Collapse of the Successors

Post by Southern Hunter »

Just a quick story about my current game. All in all I am quite pleased with it. Playing as Athens, I have taken back most of Greece and Macedon, then forced to war against Rome, took the entire Italian Peninsula. All the while I was allied to the Antigonids, who were dominating the legacy scores. They had taken all of Asia Minor, much of the area north of Macedon, all of Egypt, most of the Levant. Huge territories, mighty armies, etc. I figured to win I would have to attack them, so dropped my alliance in 1 turn, then the next declared war and attacked them in 6 regions. I took back most of Greece, a few other spots, but found out that my attack had triggered rebels in Lydia, who took out their capital, and they totally ceased to exist. It was a stunning development to go from such strength to nothing all of a sudden. Of course, new factions quickly emerged to spread into the power vacuum.

I have no complaints, but when and if I play the Antigonids, I will really be careful about my capital province!

I always thought they need to have a more gradual collapse . It just seem immersion breaking that an empire will dissaper in one turn. I remember a walkthrough where Seuleucid ate half the map then suddenly dissaper after one turn. Collapse should be more gradual

This kind of collapse is only for Seleucids, Antigonids and Lysimachids. If you are a player, you won't have it too ... You can still get civil wars, rest assured

Is it possible to have a "slow collapse"/civil wars also for IA Anti/Ly/Sel ? Or too difficult to code ? I have to say that is one of the few minus of the game, in the two long campaigns I did/I am doing on the oriental side of the Med, I never had to fight against Anti or Sel because they just disappeared before turn 100. You sort of expect one of two epic battles against one of them, but in reality, just sit and wait until they collapse /then you will just face a handful of minor powers while you had all the time in the world to become way too strong for any of them.
