42 teams, not a bad turn out at all.

I make this the biggest FoG tournament in terms of players to date.

Looking forwards to an interesting weekend.

I think Burton has always had the title for the largest doubles competition 8) Its got some way to go for the 80 teams for DBM bk II a few years ago.

Certainly ramping up the numbers though. A few more entries are still coming through - We might break the 50 mark yet!

I am sure I remember one year when DBM was at 90+.

42 teams is great, 50 teams would be superb.

No barbarians except for the lone Ancient Spanish player - Good luck to them I say. (and by Barbarian I mean Protected, undrilled, impact Foot, Sword such as Gauls or Germans).

I'm also thinking the Classical Indian player may have a tough time.

I could have easily been tempted by a barbarian outfit but my partner said he wanted to use Dominate Roman.

It pays to get your excuses in early ;)

In a theme based on armies that include armoured skilled swordsmen protected swordsmen are not much use. Hence the lack of them

Is there a possible theme that would have pritected sword impact foot but not also include the likelyhood of loads of armoured swordsmen ..?

Armoured swordsmen are not that much of a problem for protected impact foot skilled swordsmen. It's Roman legionaries who are the issue.

That said the Slave revolt army did OK in Perth where most of the armies we faced had armoured skilled swordsmen.

In a theme where there are no legionaries then protected impact foot swordsmen are pretty good.

The 1st Anniversary of the Burton FOG tournament! - we couldn't quite get to 50, with a few drop outs because of the weather. We still had 92 competitors and it was a very well natured tournament. Thanks to all who attended

Hope you can all make it next year for the Dark Ages!

Simon :)
