Pictish Spearmen can form square - intended?

While playing against the AI, I was surprised to see a Pictish Spearmen unit (Offensive Spearmen) form square. I thought this ability was exclusive to Pike. Is this working as intended, and if so can I suggest some kind of tooltip indication for all non-pike units that can do this? E.g. even if part of the unit description it would be helpful.

Yes it is intended. Pike and deep units of Offensive Spearmen can form square.

Thanks for the response, 100+ hrs of play and I don’t remember ever seeing that. It’s a testament to the breadth and diversity of the game that it can still send surprises my way.

Currently Picts are the only deep Offensive Spearmen unit in the vanilla game.

It can disconcert, deter, or delay an opponent who thought the unit on the ropes.that appears to have you on the ropes.
