Apologies if this has been asked before, I've done search of the forum and couldn't find an exact answer to the question.
I understand that the difference between the difficulty levels in single player is that the AI gets more or less points to spend at unit selection than the player dependent upon the selected difficulty level. At which level are the players points and AI's points equal?
I usually play on legate difficulty as I always assumed this was essentially the "medium" difficulty level and therefore there was parity in points, however it feels like the AI is getting more/better quality units than I do at this level.
Single Player Difficulty Levels
Re: Single Player Difficulty Levels
Tribune is the level that player and AI has the closest points to spend as 1197 vs 1200 in medium size army. Player has 3 pts short. So player has more points in Centurion level and less and less points from Legate level to Deity level. Besides, Deity level will roll down player's unit quality by one level, e.g. average to below average, and roll up AI's units quality by one level, e.g. average to above average.
I'm not sure about the epic battles' initial points for player if player has no option to purchase but use the pre-made one.

Re: Single Player Difficulty Levels
This is if "Auto" is not set on. If it is, the player gets 1260 points vs 1200.
This is instead of reducing the player points compared with Emperor level.
It is actually only a quarter of a full level - a full level being Superior->Average.
("Below average" and "Above Average" are not single fixed values, they cover a range of values.)
Centurion level makes the same tweaks in reverse, rather than reducing the points from 1197.
More but not better quality (unless their army list has better quality troops than yours). On Legate, with Auto off, the player gets 1083 points vs 1200.
You can see the opposing points totals by clicking on the Advanced Options button in the Skirmish setup.
There are no tweaks to either side's quality except on Centurion and Deity levels.
So, from Tribune to Emperor levels, if the AI has better quality units, it has paid more points for them.
It should be noted that other than as specified in this post, the AI gets no other advantages whatsoever in any aspect of the game.
