15mm Early Achaemenid Persian figures

EAP is an army I'm considering building, and I'd like the list's opinion as to which manufacturer makes the best figures, both in terms of being close to the current views of what they looked like and general prettiness. I'm UK based so would prefer figures made in the UK, given the state of the exchange rate.

My own EAP Army is made up some years ago and I used Essex and Chariot (Now Magister Militum) both look to be fine manufacturers still.

Don't Xyston do some nice Persians or are they LAP?

I think the Xyston figures are LAP rather than EAP. Thanks for the suggestion, though.

Having looked at Frederik's super site it would seem that Xyston don't do EAP

In my case, I have not Wargamed for 15 years so most of my Armies are from the more prominent suppliers of that time, Hence my 2 suggestions but I have just viewed Xystons ranges and images where available and some of the figures are certainly usable as EAP.
I must be honest and say I find that website a bit frustrating to use and have been using Corvus Belli for the Imperial Roman I am currently building. I am in the process of rebasing some 12 Armies and building 3 new ones. Just wish my wife could keep up doing the baseflocking

There are about a dozen suppliers of "Persians" that I know of - link to the listing on the Madaxeman Wiki here, however quite a few manufacturers dont differentiate between Early & Late, and I ended up combining the listings in my photo gallery as a result anyway

Most are UK based, so thats generally OK for you anyway..

they don't. i'm having to apply a lot of flexibility to my army to pretend it can field as EAP...

they do paint up nicely though.

I am building an EAP too. Xyston can be useful for troops that either were not tied to a particular period (such as cavalry and guard cavalry) and allied/subject contingents such as Indians, Egyptians, Saka and Hoplites. IMO they are the prettiest figures and accurate too (this is reflected in the price)although a bit big when stood against figures from other manufacturers.

Really its just the Sparabara and Immortals I would go to other manufacturers for , although Xyston do Persian Archers that can be used as half the sparabara. I'm quite fond of my cheap and cheerful Immortals from Black Hat. Don't know what the other suppliers' Immortals look like as annoyingly they don't feature photos on the website.

Xyston are hideously expensive. When I first saw their prices, my first thought was, "Uh, no wait, I don't need the ones cast out of solid silver..."

Brookhurst Hobbies has had Xyston on sale for some time--making them in line with other 15/18's. They may be running out their stock.

The Old Glory 15s work fine for me. Not quite as nice, but the price is right.

What can I say, I am cheap, and they make it very easy to order them via the net.
