Is this a record?

Post by rayfredjohn »

HAPPY NEW YEAR

I played Terry Shaw last night at our club. He beat me 25:0 in 2 hours.

Terry didn't have to take a single cohesion test or death roll.

That 3rd at Warfare obviously made you over confident. Oh how the mighty have fallen.

You may have done.

To be honest when things start to go West in a FoG game unless you are fighting at an advantage where you are not being slaughtered the rest of the emeny army will normally swing things against the remains of your army to such a degree that the 25-0 is almost innevitable.

Are you suggesting that 25-0 is common ?

Or that once your army is collapsing it is hard to do much?

I recall is a game of DBM one year at Epsom. My opponent had 'real romans' - wall to wall legions with bolt shooters on carts and auxilia - his C-in-C went after some LH, who took the view that you don't make an omelette. 6-1, dead general. Not so bad, but then he rolls a 1 and becomes demoralised. Did I mention he only had 2 commands? And the larger was the C-in-C's?

Once things start to slide rapidly against you if you are not making inroads elsewhere on the battlefield 0-25 or 1-24 is not an unlkely result.

I wouldn't say common but I have seen a fair number of 25-0 results in UK comps.

Ray Duggins
in your defence, his fielding Burgundian Ordonnance vs. your Early Libyans wasn't all that fair. Or was it the other way around? Seriously, what were the armies?

Oh I think I can do worse, I once had one with another well known set of Ancients rules. Parthians vs Sassanids in my first game with a LH based army. I had planned to get my Parthian LH out from in front of the Sassanid superior Cavalry, just in time for my cataphracts to slam into the enemy but did not quite time it right. Lost due to army becoming demoralised (10-0 in DBM scoring) in 2 turns, without recoiling or destroying a single element of Sassanids. Just one of my many defeats at the hands of the Sassanids.
