Camp placement
A question arose in today's game about the placement of a camp. P. 142 states that a camp cannot be placed on impassable terrain or a river or with impassable terrain on more than two sides.
One player wanted to place his camp in a village on his board edge and as we could not find any rule in the book that prohibited such an action it was allowed. Did we overlook something?

Just my opinion but if my enemy wants to flank march and come on near the rear corner to sack my camp I am ok with that. Especially if he has more than 1 BG with him. It will have effectively taken him out of the battle and by the time he does reach the battle it might be over. Where those BGs off sacking the camp might have turned the tide. But then again we have yet to have such a close win that one side won by 2 attrition points. Perhaps then my position might change a little. But still I love the strategic and tactical decisions you have to make in this game, there are pros and cons to practically ever decision you make.LambertSimnel wrote:If you flank march three non-light BGs on that side then an enemy flank march can't get past you.

But it effectively takes one of your commanders out of the game, so you really do need to weigh up the pros and cons.Amra wrote:True Brian ,
It's part of what makes the rules fun .
Not guarding the camp is a mistake ,however IMHO . I use Mongol and I send my cheapest BG of LH on a flank march . Their job ? Get me 2 points and lure enemy BG out of the line . They take the camp and run 14" !
2 points is 2 points
Not to argue with someone who knows the rules
but ,
Yes you gotta weigh it up but I also try to tip the odds my way .
I have 4 Generals . My strike force moves end game so don't ( usually ) need a General early. After the flank march has hit the baggage my Gen moves 21" per move back to the action if I need him to .
Plus, sometimes I "flank march " by a gen and LH unit in ambush if I get a forest etc on a flank
I really believe Mongols play best by not being straight forward but rather doing everything to break up (generally ) heavier battle lines . Grabbing 2 points and distracting your opponent is worth it , I think , when your trying to soften up targets with LH before a Heavies charge .
I LOVE that I finally have a set of rules that let me play Mongols historically .
