Expanding from a Later Carthaginian Starter Army

Post by Omar »

Yet another army I am working on for a friend. He is planning to get the Later Carthaginian Starter Army below:

IC, 2TC
Gallic Cav (4) - Protected
Spanish Cav (4) - Protected
Numidian Cav (4)
Numidian Cav (4)
Elephants (2)
African Spearmen (6)
African Spearmen (6)
Gallic Warriors (8) - HF
Spanish Scutarii (6) - Undrilled
Numidian Javelinmen (6)
Balearic Slingers (6)

He wants to expand it from here. This army seems to have alot of 'fiddly bits' which doesnt really suit my style. He said he wants more Elephants, thats for sure, but otherwise...

Here is what I was thinking:

Poeni Foot - MF with LS/Sword seems to be the bread and butter of MF, so can be useful.

Celtiberian Mercenary Scutarii - Drilled HF Impact/Sword seems another good unit to take. It will help the African Spearmen hold a center.

Upgrade the Spanish Scutarii to Drilled, and the Cav to Armored.

Trying to get 750pts out of the 600pt starter army by adding a few units and getting points where we can. Suggestions?

I'd consider bumping the African Spearmen up to 8s rather than 6s for 32 pts. Then they need 3 hits before they take a cohesion test. Most people I have seen use foot in that way, 3 deep too to absorb casualties, and still provide the vital 2nd rank of spear needed against Romans and Pike armed opponents.

You need another TC for 35 pts, you can never have too many generals in FoG !
