I've been invited to play FOG in the coming weeks. I'm new to the game. I would like to bring my Anglo Saxon army. The army consist (in DBM terms) of, 2x Gen Bd, 16x Carls Bd, 40x Fyrd Sp, 5x Horde. Could some body please define these figure types, including points per base, for FOG? Thank you so much.....

Re: Help with Anglo Saxons / Danes
Can you hang on until February? That's when the army list book you are looking for, Wolves from the Sea, is scheduled for publication. You might just be be able to get some preliminary hints from Nik, if you promise to buy him beer.broones8 wrote:Hi,

You might get suggestions from those who are knowledgeable on the topic yet not subject to the Slitherine Secrets Act if you specify the exact timeframe of interest to you.
In the meantime,
FWIW 2 Generals is one too few for a starter 600 point army. Having an Inspired Commanders is very handy with Undrillled troops, and a Tactical Commander to fight in the front ranks, so that's 80+35=115 points there. Paint or borrow another TC at 35, which in all costs you 150 points for commanders.

HF, Armoured, Superior, Heavy Weapon for Huscarls @12pts
HF, Protected, Average, Offensive Spear for Select Fyrd. @7pts
HF, Protected, Poor, Offensive Spear for Great Fyrd. @ 5pts
(All Undrilled)
So, improvising from what you have, and assuming a rough split of the Fyrd, 650 points could use all your miniatures as follows:
6 Huscarls 72pts
6 Huscarls 72 pts
4 Huscarls (useful for rear support/reserve for Huscarls (or anybody)) 48 pts
8 Select Fyrd @ 56 pts
8 Select Fyrd @ 56 pts
8 Select Fyrd @ 56 pts
8 Great Fyrd @40 pts
8 Great Fyrd @40 pts
10 Great Fyrd (Hordes, counting 1 base as double-based) = 50 pts
Terrain for Ancient British is Agricultural, Hilly, Woodlands, so use that.
150 points is enough to pull an ally contingent from another box.
Also, if the Great Fyrd could qualify for Avg that picks up 52 points, another TC would pick up 35 more points. Some archers would be appropriate and be reasonably cheap.
Bear in mind that 8-base BGs are often most shrewdly used on a 3-base frontage to be able to absorb losses without losing effectiveness.

I have no opinion on it, just relying on someone who volunteered one.Ghaznavid wrote:Lets just say you underestimate the weight of a Selected Fyrds equipment.MikeK wrote: HF, Protected, Average, Offensive Spear for Select Fyrd. @7pts
Hmm, what weighs more than Protected Spear gear? And the Great Fyrd might be Average?
