Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!
The Twitch Live Event today announced a new AGEOD game: Field of Glory: Empires.
http://slitherine.com/products/product.asp?gid=789
For those who missed the event, it is a new strategic game set in the period 310 BC to 190 AD.
The amazing news for us is that the battles can be exported to Field of Glory 2, played and then the results imported back into Field of Glory: Empires!

Hardly a day goes by without someone calling out on the forums for this sort of tie-up between a strategic game and FOG2, and now it is happening!
I can't wait!

Been really hoping they would add a strategic campaign to FOG 2. Day 1 buy for me

Mama Mia!
Re: Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!
It looks like my dream came true.
It's also interesting to see AGEOD's website is about the same style as Sliterine and Matrixgames.

this looks awesome
Re: Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!

The battle looks similar but not quite the same as FOG II. I think AGEOD created their own battle system?

Of course, it’s also stand alone that can be played without FoG II. They used the same Archon engine as FoG II so I believe they just recycled the 3D assets to get the same look.
Re: Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!
so if you don't own FOG2 you get what's shown and have the option if you do own FOG2 to import the battle and play it and then import it back into the game with the results fought, so more of a hands on approach if you so desire, as some will, some won't, but to have it as an option imo is a great idea as then it pleases and suits everyone, and i repeat, came totally out of the blue to me also, and i'm one of the testers lol so almost fell off my chair when it was announced last night as such

This is an excellent development. I see they also have fatigue rules in the AGEOD game.

It’s operational scale anyway. So it’s very much appropriate.stockwellpete wrote: ↑Tue Nov 20, 2018 8:44 am This is an excellent development. I see they also have fatigue rules in the AGEOD game.
One complaint with AGEOD games is that the battles are automatic, hard to get into, and hard to figure out what happened. The good thing here is you have an option to get full control. Best of both worlds.
Now as someone mentioned in another thread, this should also link up to Mare Nostrum naval battles.

Great news... Yes, it makes absolute sense to merge the strategic to the tactical level. Not enough PC wargames do it and it leaves people disappointed at times. One game that had a go was Pacific Storm but not many followed on from that. Having two interconnected games is a great way to go...

I know people will be dancing in the streets but if I may push the boat out and wonder if they are going to offer mp campaigns where you can play your friends this would really put wargaming into the 22nd century......!

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!
Others have already replied to this, but just to make it absolutely clear, Empires gives you two choices when a battle occurs:
1) You can auto resolve. You then get a simplified battle played out on screen, and this screenshot gives an example of that. You have no control over this at all, it is just a graphical representation of what has gone on. It uses some FOG2 graphics, so looks similar.
OR
2) You can export the game to Field of Glory 2, and play the battle out yourself in full using FOG2. When the battle is completed you export the result back to Empires.
Not all players who buy Empires will have FOG2. FOG2 players may not want to fight out every battle in full. So there has to be a way of auto resolving the battles quickly and simply, and this is what you are seeing in this screenshot. It confused me, and several others, when I first saw it on the presentation.
PS: I believe naval battles always use the same auto resolve method, so I presume there will be ship models, but I have not seen any screenshots. If there are ship models, that opens up the possibility of a naval mod, along the lines of jomni's Lepanto (PS Campaigns)!

Re: Field of Glory: Empires Unveiled!
I am also very happy that it has been possible to combine global strategy with Field of Glory 2 battles! I have wanted something like that since the game was released.
Only too bad that it is probably a bit inconvenient to export the battles to Field of Glory 2 and export it back and these balltes are not directly integrated into the game.
I would have been more pleased if Byzantine Games would have tried to talk to the Swedish developer Paradox Interactive about such a collaboration, but I suspect that would not be so easy.
But finally i have some questions:
How many people can join the asynchronous multiplayer of Field of Glory: Empires? Is it just a 1v1, or can every nation be given to a player in multiplayer, like it is the case in Paradox Interactive games?
And if there are several players possible: Will it be possible to ally and carry out battles with mixed armies in Field of Glory 2?
I wish for a long time the possibility of a direct multiplayer mode in Field of Glory 2 and the opportunity to beat for example 2v2 battles.
