Supported HF hit in Flank

Post by Bugle999 »

Question 1:
A Unit of HF (with LF support) is hit in the flank in such a way that both the first 2 ranks of the HF and 1 LF support are all contacted on a side edge.
The HF unit is already fighting enemy to its front.
(See P.56) Here it states that all bases which are contacted immediately turn 90 degrees to face, unless already in contact with enemy to their front.
Is 'in contact' to be taken literally and therefore this means that the 2nd Rank HF and 3rd Rank LF support turn to face, with the LF behind the HF?
or
Does 'in contact' include those 'fighting' (adding dice) to their front, in which case only the LF support would turn.
Question 2:
The same HF unit is charged in the front and flank at the same time (again 2 ranks of HF and 1 rank of LF support are contacted in the flank).
How many (if any) are turned to face the flank attackers - it may be a different answer to above as the 2nd rank HF is not 'adding dice' in the impact phase (only front rank do).
Question 3:
(Page 57) A unit can be charged in the flank (eventhough it is not a flank charge) 'PROVIDED THAT IT WAS NOT ALREADY IN MELEE TO ITS FRONT'. What is the definition of melee in this circumstance,
a) fighting in base to base contact with enemy.
b) supporting a front rank fighting in base to base contact with enemy.
c) support shooting for a front rank fighting in base contact with enemy.
d) something else...?

Many thanks in adavance.

If you hit all three bases then the 2nd HF and the LF turn, if you hit two bases then the same happens, if you just hit the LF then only the LF turns. At least that is my understanding.

In contact means just that, the second and third rank are not in contact.

The answer to the second question is the same but in this case if the frontal chargers are mounted there will be no support shooting as the light foot are a little busy.

Q3 is covered in the FAQ as it is not 100% clear in the rules. You cannot charge 1st or 2nd rank bases on their flank "not as a flank charge".
