Rear Support and Ambushed Troops

Post by kal5056 »

If you have a BG in ambush that is eligible to provide rear support to another BG in all ways except that it is in ambush, can you reveal the ambush at "anytime" that you need to claim the rear support. (ie. It is my opponent's turn, we are engaged in a melle which I lose. I role my CT and fail by 1 at this point can I reveal an ambushed bg that would provide rear support to the fighting BG take the plus 1 and pass the CT ?)
Thank You

Personally I would say you cannot do that.

Until an ambush is deployed no-one knows which way it is facing so you cannot determine that it satisfies the requirements for rear support.

An ambush can only be revealed in your own turn (last bullet, page 143 (English version)).

And wouldn't it kind of defeat the purpose of an ambush? You would have to tell your opponent that these troops in ambush are providing rear support. Then your opponent knows that there are troops there. But I thought there was talk elswhere that you had to have troops on the table to provide rear support.
