Please ask your question in another way.
What does positively dismounted mean?

When playing a Byzantine campaign on Emperor level, I would always dismount my Noble Lancers if fighting against an army with large numbers of lancer cavalry, ie: Vandals and Ostrogoths. So I would use the dismounted lancers to hold the line while my Byzantine missile troops destroy the enemy.

As foot they count as Offensive Spearmen and are therefore almost invulnerable against cavalry lancers. If they do not dismount, then they would be hopelessly outnumbered by the enemy cavalry.

One cannot underestimate the value of a few superior armored offensive spears, especially if your playing historical opponents.
