supporting light foot?

Post by benos »

i am currently painting up a foderate roman army, initially for gamer vs sassanids and huns. I am wondering about how useful the supporting archers will be? I am intending to use the auxillia as medium foot for terrain troops if that makes a difference
Many thanks

Supporting LF are at their best against such opponents and I would take them with any HF. With all that incoming shooting, having a cheap 3rd rank will help resistance to shooting and sustaining losses without loss of combat power - ideally 9-base BGs.

I realize your plan is to use the Auxiliaries as MF for terrain, in which case the LFs value is reduced - if, however, they have to face mounted in the open you may miss the backup.

Foederate legions are only available as protected I believe, so they are not very good against either of those opponents. I would steer clear of the whole lot and concentrate on Cav, LH and MF for my army.
