When working on army lists I usually ask myself, "How am I going to win games?" With this list I'm not sure I'd know how to answer that.

1) You have LOTS of poor troops and I'm not sure what you intend to do with them. Poor shooters aren't going to get many hits.
2) You get a lot of battle groups which is fine
3) Perhaps one plan would be to say you're going to win with the cataphracts - if so, make them all superior and see what you have to give up to get them to 6 stands each?
4) I'm not sure how to use that many skirmishers. I can see the poor slingers to bump the BG total.

i agree. way too many poor troops. i run this same army and if you're relying on what they used to call under DBM "wall of crap"? then you're going about it the wrong way.

i'd ditch the elite armoured cav. they're not actually all that useful. a four of elites is still on -1 for cohesion tests if it loses a single base, so superiors are more points effective. plus, cav lancers should never go in unsupported, which is a risk in an army this small. you are better using the points to make the rest of the army decent.

also, the ally isn't that effective with only 4 cataphracts, and the 6 cat in the main army need to be superior. if they're your punch, then they should be your best troops.

Maybe it is just me, but I like to have a general for each "melee winner" BG I count on using and at least an extra for rally/missile resistance. Points being limited, that means I prefer 4 TC to 1 FC/IC and 2 TC. I would never dream of going into battle with only two generals unless I am a shooty army and I know my enemy has few missile troops.

When going against a Legionnary BG (or several), your combat BGs, whether Argyraspids or cataphracts, will need all the help you can give them.

Here are my seleucids from memory

4XTC
2X4BG Sup Cats
1X4BG Elite Cav Lancers
2X12 Pike
2X4 Args as Roman pipe hitters.
2X 4Light Horse BGs
1X6 Armoured Medium Foot
3X 6 LF Slingers and Archer as Poor

I found it very tough frontally, and very difficult for anyone in period to beat it. Gotta watch getting the skirmishers killed against a ligh horse army. I have put the Elite Cav Lancers down early at the center of the table and found I can zoom them to where I want them.

I am debating about taking 1X6 Cats and using the point elsewhere for upgrades.......but frankly I have like the two battlegroup working together.

I have played the Pike 3 deep against a shooty Cav army, but that was the only time....
