Might as well be a victory parade... right?

Post by Iwfan53 »

Well as some of you guys may be aware... I am continuing my Grand Campaign East play through that has been going on for several years... mainly due to me tending to take some long breaks throughout 44, and especially 45, when at times I spent more or less an entire year between missions at times.

That said, I just fought Berlin Redux.

My base strategy was pretty much perfect. Granted I went down in flames turn 6 on the first play through because I didn't realize just how much soviet artillery would come pouring in from the north... but attempt two with a single tank to block the north bridge to the central area with the bunker, I was able to slow them down quite noticeably. Granted, I probably should have left a few more tanks (like another 1 or 2) because while thanks to some incredibly lucky rolls I managed to take out Zhukov on my turn eight, then on the soviet turn 8 they took out the command bunker.

Evidently the game checks for my victory condition before the soviet one (not too surprising that this is something that is a bit of a gray area, this is like the only mission I can think of where both sides can have met their victory conditions simultaneously, and hey I fulfilled my victory condition before they fulfilled theirs, since I went first!) and so this still counted as a DV. You might say that is a technicality and taking advantage of programming oversites, but I choose to see it as eliminating both the Soviet external threat to Berlin as well as the Internal threat of... that guy who the game never names/references for obvious reasons... with him out of the way, once the current unpleasantness with the UK and Americans have been sorted out, I can take my proper position as the hero of the people and the new leader of Germany.

My first order...all female officers will be required to wear tiny miniskirts!

I don't know too much about Epilogue but from what I've heard it should be pretty darn easy as after reading the mission break down I've still got three anti-air craft guns (one mobile two stationary) and all three of my jets, so set up enough ground units to take care of the cities, then some air units to help thin the skies if necessary, maybe not even that, and well it should be easy, after all Redux was much easier than Berlin!

EDIT: Yuppp... just played through Epilogue, nice job guys, I especially appreciated that little twist at the end, thank you for all your hard work making this game and or being part of this community. I guess the big question is which of the campaigns should I play next?

Oh, and I just realized the irony that I finished the East Campaign on VE day, that's like the Red Sox winning the world series for the first time in 86 years during a lunar eclipse isn't it?
